Do you think police brutality should be tolerated?
Is it, for you, a negative or positive action?

PROFANITY IS NOT ALLOWED!

It should not be tolerated. At all. It's wrong.
but the cops can do no wrong.
they can kill,
they can rape,
they can do what they want, but the cops can do no wrong.

People assume that just because they're a high authoritive figure, they're not going to do anything wrong. But, they do do horrible things to innocent people, or un-deserving people.
I don't think it's right, even if the criminal [or innocent person, in few cases] has done something wrong, they still shouldn't beat them. It's not right to do so. If they've done something bad, they're going to be punished by the law, not your fists, or other weapons. Let the law take care of it.

Okay, what you just said there is totally untrue.

My father works for the police, and when they have to use violence, they do. They don't get away with everything, they are treated like normal citizens. Police will only use violence to refrain people, otherwise they'll try and arrest the person as fairly as possible.

Usually the person being arrested is yelling, "POLICE BRUTALITY!" because they're trying to get out of doing wrong.

How about we put this to the case:
Any kind of brutality is wrong
Any kind of violence is wrong.

Has the criminal then violated their right by (presumably) committing violence n the first place?. I don't think so. Eye for an eye doesn't have a place in a civilised society. Especially when poilice are a respected figure. You don't fight violence with violence. I suppose as a last resort, yes, but then it can go too far.

Did anyone ever hear of that case in England where a man was arrested, beaten, then left (supervised) by officers on the floor of a police station while he brain haemmorhaged to death?. Case in point. Turns out he was innocent, too.

Cases like that might be the minority, but they are still there and I say any kind of brutality whatsoever is wrong.

Well, Police Brutality for me is wrong. Using such force to force something out of someone is very cruel.

And some policemen in the world use this act to get what they want like money and all those stuff.

It's somewhat an abuse of power.

A news report covered some teenage men ralying during some independence day event with the Philippine Vice-pres.
Some policemen immediately took hold of these teenage ralliests and put them in a police car.
Then when that kid was already taken, man just punched one kid hard that the kid was almost pushed away.
Come on- that teenager was a minor.

It was independence day. Rallies are supposed to be allowed.

I very much agree with you. I have heard of cases of police beating someone with unnecessary force, and that I don't agree with. But more often than not they won't try to beat someone to death, they will just defend themselves. I mean, if they just stood there, didn't fight back, the criminal would hurt them severely and get away.

My brother is about to become a cop.
And I feel, that if he needs to use any kind of
violence to protect himself, he should be able to.
I'd rather see the criminal being beaten to death,
than the cop.

BUT. Violence should only be used in defence!

^ I completely agree with that.

Police are the people who are supposed to be looking out for the best interests of society.
If it is a matter of using violence against a person, or the police officer getting bashed/murdered/anything along those lines, the police officer should be able to use violence to defend themselves!

My daddy's a cop

And it makes me so scared. I don't ever want something to happen to him.

But it also makes me sad when people talk badly about cops. I know there are some bad ones out there, but that doesnt make them all brutal, evil people. I've met so many of my dad's coworkers and there all normal guys, you know? I'm sure if they needed to defend themselves if they were being attacked, they would. But I know....they would never hurt a criminal for no reason. People need to learn to draw a line and to stop generalizing.

dude, thats the philipines;;
have you ever been there?
kids there carry KNIVES around, i know this as a fact because i myself grew up there and so did my parents.
tho i do admit that kind of brutality is wrong, but there in the Philipines corrupt cops are everywhere.
Its not a happy place at all.

But sometimes authoritive figures have to use that type of force, my dad is a cop and they only use it when necessary e.g when arresting
usually they warn the person that they are doing the wrong thing and only then do they arrest them for not complying...atleast thats how it is in Australia

Erm, not to be rude but look at her location. It clearly states there, "Philippines."
I know her, she's my bestfriend and I am a filipino too.

Not all cops here are corrupt.
They aren't everywhere like you say.
And, "It's not a happy place at all."? How do you say that? Because of the cops, this isn't a happy place? How long have you been here? Because based from experience, the Philippines is somewhat a happy place.

The one thing a cop thinks about is getting home alive that day or night. Sorry but if the guy is threatening a citizen or a officer take him down in any way possiable. And no one ever freezes when you say freeze. Cop's arn't rough when you cooperate but if you run or resist they're forced to, it's there job. If you cooperating or something like that then i'm all against brutality but do you want the person to get free and harm others and more than likely the officer just because the officer didn't use some force?

sorry i didnt see that part;;
from where i came from ive seen a load of corrupt cops, and i am deathly scared to go there again...not because of the cops.
maybe because last time i was stalked like almost everytime i went out.
and no offence to the Philipines or anything, but some places are quite dangerous, from what ive heard from my parent's experiences. When i visited there, even securityguards carried guns at the mall.

Erm.
Of course they must carry guns.

I dunno about other countries but how else might they protect people or themselves without a gun or some self-defense tool?

Exactly.

My father's colleage was shot on duty and died in the 90's. I know, a long time ago, but the reason he was shot, was because an out of control man was firing. The police in the end had to fire at him, and eventually hit him in the arm to stop him.

Some people will argue that this was wrong, but think what would have happened if they didn't.
Innocent people could have lost their lives.

Not true.
In 2002, in Miami a group of liberabls, anarchists, union workers, and activists were wrongfully attacked by police after being herded into a dead end by the cops, where the police then began to use tear gas, arrest random people, and tasering them over and over, they later sexually assualted the ones they arrested, and attacked the gay/lesbian community as well, not to mention they shot people with rubber bullets.

The cops never got in trouble.
Is that not police brutality? I'll go get my source if you don't believe me.

same here, my dad's a policeman but it doesn't make him a rapist or a murderer. infact, before i was born he was stabbed in london so that doesn't make him tough or threatening! totally prejudice.
