Sorry if this topics been done before, although I did check.

Is a 'mail order' wife right or wrong?
Should it be made illegal?
Should it stick to it's own country?
Should there be more awareness of this trade?

I most certainly agree. It's a really wrong thing to do, and being some "mail order wife", prostitute or whatever will really steal your personality. It doesn't matter if you have to go everyday for five hours or something in a library, sitting there all day long or whatever. Just don't resort to being some "mail order wife".

I dunno. I couldn't be a mail order bride and I don't know anyone who would be the "groom".
But I guess you have an agreement between two people who want something. SHe wants to be a citizen of a country that normally won't allow her in.... he wants a wife. What two people decide to do with their lives is their business and just because *I* wouldn't do it, I can't tell others that they can't.
But then again if we just made the whole thing illegal, then young girls wouldn't have to sell themselvs in the first place.
I guess when it comes down to it, people will do whatever it takes to get something they want.... a promise of a better life.

It's a shame that they're brainwashed into thinking they're going to have a better life... and then get given an old, seedy, pervy and abusive man, because they have no voice and I don't think can change anything about the situation unless the man wants rid.

I might be wrong though.

It's a sad, sad trade.

well... i think that it depends on the situation... it's not something that's very prominent where i'm from, so i never really gave it much thought... i can say that its something that i honestly do not approve of... but i can't say if it's wrong or right...

So wait, I think we're stereotyping the men who order mail order brides. We're assuming their old, disgusting perverted, sexually deviant men who want to rape and abuse a woman. That's a bit unfair. Although it probably does happen, I'm willing to bet that there are real couples out there. And what about the women? I'll bet that some of them would be forced into an arranged marriage anyways.

According to The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) "...marriages arranged through these services would appear to have a lower divorce rate than the nation as a whole, fully 80 percent of these marriages having lasted over the years for which reports are available." The USCIS also reports that "... mail-order bride and e-mail correspondence services result in 4,000 to 6,000 marriages between U.S. men and foreign brides each year."

Apparently, it's not all pervy men and desperate women. Personally, I see no difference between mail order brides and women who list themselves on match-making websites. A want-ad is a want-ad, any way you slice it.

true... i know that my dad has a friend that ordered himself a wife... they've been married for 20 years... but like i said... it's not something that people usually think about... at least where i'm from... then again... it depends on what part of the country you're coming from, and the mindset in that particular area... i know that where i'm from... it's looked down upon...

i think that if the woman knows what she's getting into... as does the man... then it's not a problem... but the fact of the matter is that not all of the women have a choice in becoming mail order brides... i think that's when things can get potentially problematic... i think that everyone has a right to choose their own spouse... but then again... that's just me...

I know a lot of people who have done that.
Most of them are the best relationships I've ever seen.
They dont seem to have a problem with it,
Why should we take it away from them?

I dont know,
Theres some things about it that are messed up,
But other things that make it good.

I think that it would be a bad thing if the woman was forced into it. But if she's 'giving herself up' willingly to get married to someone she doesn't know, and who might possibly live on the other side of the world, then so be it; it's her choice.

But a lot of women are forced into it, which, I think, is wrong.

i'm against it if they just want to go the cheats way about getting into a country that normally wouldn't allow them in. there's gotta be a reason they weren't allowed to stay in the first place yeah? whether it be because they can't get a job, don't have the money, etc.

if it's someone who's had a connection with a person on the other side of the world and honestly wants to be with them, then it could be a good thing, because there's more at stake, so they'd try harder to make it work instead of just divorcing after being made a citizen or whatever. that can really screw with a guys mind if he really cared for her, but she was just trying to stay in the country.

there's really too many variables in the situations. give me a scenario and i'd be able to decide better.

i guess some rules for some people, other rules for others.

well i think it was a good idea to start with, because with love, you never know. but most of those guys are just looking for some hot foriegn chic, and most of the women just want out of their countries, so they'll do anything to get here.

personally i think that its ridiculous that someone would order a bride through the mail! you should fall in love and care about someone! not order them! thats dumb! it should be illegal! and i dont understand why someone would do that!

Just the idea of 'buying' love doesn't work with me.

To me, love is about finding someone who maybe at first you don't like.
And then to have your relationship progress into something deep and meaningful; love.

But with a mail order wife, you don't get that.
You don't get the chase.
Or the first date tingles.

It's straight into the marriage, when you don't already love yet.
Which is what marriage is about.

It's a bit like fake love.
