- Do you agree with the idea of IVF; giving a couple who cannot conceive naturally the chance to have a baby?
- Should they not allow it, given the fact it can increase the risk of getting cancer?
- Should they not allow it given the side effects such as dehydration and abdominal pains, etc?

And any other questions anyone wants to ask about it.

I think that its perfectly fine... Its really their decision on the cancer thing because it doesn't always cause it... Trying to have a baby but not being able to would suck so I can completely understand... I think that a life is far more important than a risk or side effects...

A few of my family members conceived by using IVF. One had triplets, the other a single. The triplets have had a lot of health problems relating to being multiples and it has been a huge financial strain on the family. I think maybe they should educate a little more regarding multiples and the effect that being a multiple can have on a baby's health. They definitely weren't ready for three babies with such severe health issues.

The single, on the other hand, is a perfectly healthy, happy little girl who was wanted for almost 10 years. She completes her family and makes her parents so happy. I was glad that they were able to concieve using IVF and have their parenthood dreams realized.

I think that how two people concieve it irrelevent. It's what happens once the bundle comes. As with a child that was concieved naturally, there are no guarantees that everything will be ok. Should the parents be blamed if the child(ren) is not 100% healthy?... no.
I am sure they are heartbroken enough with out the rest of the world laying a guilt trip on them.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention the risk of the possibilty of having more than one child.

Some people say that if you can't have kids naturally, you should just adopt/foster, but I think a couple has the right to have a child of their own should they wish to.

while adopting a child doesnt lessen a parents love for them, some parents just want to go through everything that actually HAVING a baby entails. if they know the risks and still decide to go through with it, that's their decision

i agree one hundred percent. ppl should be worrying more about what happens when the baby COMES than HOW it comes. and you're right, there are MANY risks that come with natural pregnancy.

I didn't mean that in a bad way, about the multiples. I only meant that since a multiple birth is more likely with IVF, there should be a little more education about it. Any medical procedure needs to be undertaken with as much information as possible about the outcomes. No one blames my cousins for their children's health, but even they have said that they wish they had known a little more about it.

I guess I could liken it to when we were going through the adoption process, when we were looking at adopting from China, one of the things our parenting classes focused on was helping an institutionalized, malnourished child adapt to the American way of life. A person who concieves naturally shouldn't have to deal with that particular issue, whereas an adoptive family might, so it makes sense to teach them about it. An IVF family has a much higher chance of multiples, so I feel it should be covered more in the education process.

Either way, I still feel that IVF is an amazing medical miracle that can help people realize their dreams of parenthood. Not everyone wants to adopt, there are people who do say/feel that they can't love a child who isn't theirs, so IVF gives them a chance to have a child of their own blood. I think it's a great procedure.

Sorry if this counts as spamming... but I'm guessing a mod added the web link on my first post?

i agree with it, and see nothing wrong it accept for the fact that a person can wind up giving bith to multiple babies.
