edit; now i read that i noticed how corny and cheesy that sounded lmfao i didnt mean to sound that lame XD

tai. oh, sweet :] lol chizzy is a champ XD

i agree, it's awesome that bands can communicate with fans on the other side of the world.

that's a pretty kewl that Gabe replied!
i think to get a msg back from an overseas band is pretty lucky!

Hannah's rant-
i'd agree with half of it. All the teeny attention is pretty silly but heck that's what kids go through and they can't help it at their age. I can definitely relate, I've had many obsessions but fortunately when I came to love music i've gotten over that phase or else i'd be slapped by all of you.

and i agree with asha on journalists- they try their luck at asking questions but musicians won't answer if they think it's too personal. It doesn't hurt to peek into the lives of musicians and life on tour...it helps you understand even more how their music & lyrics came to be, when you know a bit about their very different & unglamorous lifestyle. It makes me appreciate them even more. I bought Kerrang! for the 1st time today and gees I was impressed by the jouralism in the Madina Lake article (& couldn't help squealing when wiL came into that article LOL)...the article kinda brought their world to me through words.

I wish I could be in London for the protest against the Daily Mail for being so shitty to MCR all the time in the recent years.

^ I personally think that's really dumb.
The Daily Mail isn't the first newspaper to publish something that's offensive to a certain group of people.
Hell, it happens every day.
Protest against wars, against discrimination, or against inequality.
But what does this protest qualify as?

Awwww Jaimee, that's so awesome!
[/really late]

And I agree about the protest being extremely pointless.
Even if the Daily Mail did stop ~badmouthing My Chem,
what exactly would that achieve in the world?
It's not going to eliminate poverty, it's not going to stop violence or discrimination,
it's not going to do anything worthwhile.
I'm sorry to say this, but the My Chem fandom needs a fucking reality check on what really matters.

edited (sorry misread a bit)

^ isn't what you're saying the same as, what difference would a drop in the ocean make? I think culture and the wellbeing of kids is just as important as eliminating violence, proverty and discrimination.

Yes, it's about the music you say and that's true. But music does not exist in a nucleus on its own. It exists in culture, within society and people. That's why we care...music is an art, a form of entertainment, but it's also about people. The mainstream likes to class music fans according to the music they like. That's fine, but when they start getting the wrong idea, that's where it matters. The media is saying MCR causes kids to self harm & suicide and that's where it starts to bother me. It's now not just a silly fashion & trend debate, but it's about treating kids who have a serious problem with depression. What they want to say is to take away the music and kids will be fine. I think if anyone tries to do that, they are depriving kids of quality music. That's the point i'm coming down to.

of course I care about the message that MCR sends out and i chose to put a close relationship between the band, the music and their motto, however, it's fine if no one else does, but I just want to establish the fact that if people keep blaming MCR for suicide etc, it bothers those fans who chose to back up the band in the change that they want to make in this world and we feel a need to do something.

and what fucking reality check? if there exists a freedom of opinion? I don't ever try to draw a line between music for music's sake and fandom. No one knows how or why another fan loves a band so I don't bother. Love one, love all.

Amy, I respect your opinion to protest the bad publicity they receive/d. I know you're very much dedicated to the band, and the members themselves.

But it doesn't make any sense at all.
My Chemical Romance portray a message that only actual fans would understand.
If you put any other group of five men dressed in marching band suits, and tell someone they have an album named 'The Black Parade', which is based around the story of dying or whatever, I guarantee you they will be astounded.
Even with little knowledge of the music genre, or the band themselves, it is a morbid portrayal.

Throughout music's history, musicians and artists have always been condemned by someone. The press are most certainly at fault for having little insight into the band before labelling them whatever they did, but how will this protest change the image My Chemical Romance, and MCR fans, have?

If anything, it'll worsen it. Wherever I read it - sure, the MCR fandom may not be a cult, but an army is not much better.
An army fights a war. A battle. And there are always casualties in any army.
An army is not lead by common sense. An army is lead by a government or a power.
No one said that the Daily Mail wants to take away music.
They themselves didn't say it.
And even if they attempted to take away music, it cannot be.
Despite the lengths they go to, they cannot deprive anyone of music.
We're not under Stalin's command. And even then, there was an illegal underground music scene.

My question is - before beginning the protest, what other measures have been taken as way to make this right?
Did anyone take the initiative to write to the Daily Mail?
Did anyone bother to negotiate beforehand?
Or was it automatically assumed that those means would not work, and the protest would be the most effective way?

And if I'm right in thinking what Asha meant by saying they need a reality check - we're not saying we're going to change your minds.
But there are an enormous amount of world issues surrounding us.
All you'd have to do is open the newspaper past the first page, and you're hit with it.
In the scheme of things, My Chemical Romance is a band.
And every single band on this planet has had to deal with bad publicity and incorrect media portrayal.

They depict the message and image they choose to.
And that is interpreted differently depending on each person.
But at the end of the day, they fit into a music genre or scene that receives a lot of backlash.
And they have to deal with it. Or they shouldn't be in the music industry at all.
That's the bottom line.

DRUNK WITH LUST:

Did anyone take the initiative to write to the Daily Mail?
Did anyone bother to negotiate beforehand?

well actually, people did try to negotiate as much as they possibly could. they wrote letters, posted comments on the website (which werent even angry or rude comments). the daily mail, however, refused to put these comments on the website and had no intention of listening to reason or logic. basically, they ignored us.
the protest is a way of making them listen and letting them know that enough is enough. the daily mail have targeted MCR for quite a while now and when they start refering to MCR as a 'suicide cult' thats going way too far and fans are starting to get sick of it.
we're doing what MCR taught us to do: "be yourselves, dont take anyones shit and never let them take you alive."
it may not seem like a big deal to you, which is fine because your entitled to your own opinion but its something we feel passionate about and we feel the need to do something about it.

I completely agree with Jules here.

The Black Parade and all this portrayal of dying just says it all to someone who is completely new to the band.

You gotta remember in the majority of the people who read things like the Daily Mail are in their 30's 40's and 50's when the word "bloody" was a swear word and bands that we like were like "satanic metal" Neutral
