I hope that email was telling her to get her facts straight and do her research before doing a petition, Rachel.
My god people like that make me mad!!!

Jojo i think you should speak about the sterotyping of 'emo' and that most 'emos' don't actually fit that sterotype if you get to know them. And also that My Chem aren't emo!
People who sterotype annoy the hell out of me, i'm very annoyed and angry at the moment -grr-

I sent her my "Rachel Rants: My Chemical Romance Fans ARE A Deathcult"
Journal.
The whole thing is driping with obvious sarcasm, don't worry.

I really would like to challenge anyone in the media to write an article about "emo" and actually research it!

"emo kids

1) The fans of emo music (emocore, emotional hardcore), a music genre consisting of hardcore rock with angsty lyrics and a good dose of screaming. The singers/screamers of emo music are typically relatively young guys with feminine voices. Emo bands are also (in stereotype) primarily from New Jersey.

2) The style of clothing stereotypically worn by fans of emo music. This consists of, in general: tight band t-shirts or vintage 80's t-shirts, longer (messy) hair often died black, tight (usual girl's) pants, shoes by Vans or Converse, messenger bags, anything checkered (usually black-and-white or black-and-pink), studded belts, thick-framed glasses, neckties, etc.
(Note: girl emo kids often cut their hair short in the back and angled down in the front, less often died black)

3) The mood that stereotypically displays being an emo kid. They are generally considered the subculture of high-school, and while sometimes referred to as manic depressive or "cutters," are usually quite social. Very romantic, often downtrodden. More realistically, teenagers who listen to heavy music and have no qualms with displaying their emotions. (ie, don't feel the need to prove themselves as "bad-@$$," like many rock fans.)

Emo kids listen to many of the following bands: Thursday, Death Cab for Cutie, UnderOath, Fallout Boy, Taking Back Sunday, My Chemical Romance, As Cities Burn, etc."

I LOL at the comments to your journal thing Rachel, and that was AWESOME, i would love to see the look on that ladies face when she reads it. Maybe she'll take the petition down? Or maybe listen to their music... like that would actually happen.

I just don't understand why someone like, the Daily Mail, for example, can't just go
"Right... Imma do a report on emos. BUT... I'm going to research it!"

Its all bullshit from "worried parents" and "concerned teachers" who couldn't really give a fuck.
Let's just say, you're a parent and you find out your 13 year old has been self harming?
What's the first thing you'd do?
A) Talk to the kid?
B) Go "Ohh mah Gawd!! Luk wut MCR haz dun too maii childe!!!"?

It's like, yeah. You must have been super worried! So worried in fact, that you ignored it and just tried to blame a rock band.

OR!
The kid is depressed so the parents are all "Okay. I know what to do! We'll ban MCR, the thing that makes you happy? Yeah... We'll ban you from listening to it"

...Way to fail.

Mr. Green I think I'm done now

Parents just want to blame someone else because they know it's partly their fault but don't want to admit it. Music makes kids happy, why in the world would you ban it when you can plainly see that their lives revolve around it. it would be like banning the earth from the sun, the most stupid idea ever!
