The Widget Hoaxes
Finally, I've found some time to get everyone straight on what happened the morning of November 17th.
So. It all starts with the release of the Love Like Winter expanded music video on Yahoo! Music. The video itself is pretty cool, opening up with the end of the Interview. During this new beginning to the video, however, some interesting images flash before the screen.
The first 4 images are thing's recognizable from past clues; Davey's Mummy video, Hunter's apple video, Adam's flower video, and Jade's writing video. The fifth image, however, is something we haven't quite seen before.
The image is of a snake that has appeared on a few pieces of AFI merchandise (Sing the Sorrow's vinyl release, for example). Plastered onto the image is a bit of Icelandic text that resembles "prirprisJo" in roman characters. This text translates into a set of numbers we should all be very familiar with by now. "337".
Someone had the brilliant idea of adding "prirprisJo" to their AIM buddy list - it would not be unlike AFI to make such a screen name to supply clues with.
Well, it was a screen name, and it logged on with a mysterious profile and vexing away message. We were given a phone number and a strange, winter image. When the number was called, the ambiance from Synesthesia's demo version was heard playing.

With the news widget's countdown close to end, all of this seemed to perfect for coincidence, and it was believed that this new AIM name would provide clarity on the issue as soon as the countdown hit 00:00:00. The night of the 16th, a myspace using "prirprisJo" as it's nickname popped up, commenting AFI's page with the current counter times.

"prirprisJo" logged onto AIM when the widget ran out, and immediately put up a new away message that stung and shocked the most of us. It declared that we had all been fooled, but on a side note, the PS3 was coming out that night.
Legions of people following the mystery snapped. The hoaxer behind the "prirprisJo" AIM began receiving some very, very angry phone calls.
As for the myspace, it had been run by a very misinformed hoaxer, who at the end of the countdown put up a bastardized version of xModernxManx's summary in the myspace's blog, with the events of that night treated as fact, rather than a large hoax.
I have talked with both hoaxers. They operated entirely separate from each other, and should not be treated as a unit.
With that, we are at square one. Nothing has become of the Love Like Winter video, or the news widget.
