I think it's alright to use violence to defend yourself against an aggressive person. Coz like, if someone comes at a police officer waving a knife and threatening to stab him, is he supposed to just stand there and be stabbed then let the person with the knife attack others?
If police officers have to fight someone to protect themselves and others, then they should. It's better that one dangerous person is attacked and taken away than several innocent people hurt or killed.
I think 'police brutality' is just a way for someone to try and take the bad light off themselves and push it onto an innocent person who was just doing their job by defending people.

I think police have a right to defend themselves. You can't expect people to defend the public if they can't even defend themselves.

However, I know a few instances where police haven't simply been defending themselves. Recently, at a rock venue near where I live, a guy pulled a gun when he wasn't allowed entry to an invitation-only show. He didn't say he was a policeman, he just demanded to be let in. Obviously, thats a gross abuse of power.

I'm not quite sure how to stop incidents like that from occuring though... I mean, the guys got to have a gun to protect himself. But at the same time, it allows him to misuse it in that way. I don't think he was even punished for what he did though, so that would help a lot.

If he never said he was a policeman then how do you know he was one? Was there an article in the paper or something?

He said he was a policeman AFTER he pulled a gun, in fact, after his back-up arrived (which was sometime later). Initially, everyone at the venue thought the police were there to deal with a gunman, not provide support for their fellow-officer. (Sorry, looking at my earlier post I realise this was unclear.)

Sometimes, I think the police are a lot more brutal than they really need to be. I mean, unless someone is like trying to shank them in the gut or are armed and dangerous, then it doesn't seem neccesary.
Even though the police obvioiusly need to be brutal when someones resisting arrest, they don't have to treat them like they're trying to pull a gun on them or anything.

Police brutality should not be tolerated unless you attack them. then thats a diff story.

For me, like I said before, it depends. But for no reason, if a cop were to attack an innocent person, then no it shall not be tolerated.
