Bill is known for his very androgynous rocker look. He often wears tight jeans, black jackets, rock band tees, and gothic jewellery. He has dyed his hair black ever since he started singing and also wears dark eyeliner.

However, his looks have garnered criticism. His skinny frame has led to people criticising him for portraying a negative image for his fans. His use of make-up has also been called "unnatural." Bill has, however, made it clear that he is simply an artist expressing himself through his music as well as through his choice of clothing. His looks and hair style has also mislead people to believe he's a female.

Tom went for the rapper style. His look often consists of very baggy jeans, baggy shirts and jerseys, New Eras Hats, baseball caps, headbands, and dreadlocks. Tom has admitted that he's single and is also the playboy of the group.

The Kaulitz twins have kept a majority of their personal life out of the tabloids, but Bill’s androgynous appearance has made his sexuality an issue in some quarters. Bill has however stated that he is not homosexual.
