Gravity, don't mean too much to me
I'm who I've got to be
These pigs are after me, after you
Run away, like it was yesterday
And we could run away
If we could run away
Run away from here

I got a bulletproof heart
You got a hollow point smile
Me and your runaway scars
Got a photograph dream on the getaway mile
Let's blow a hole in this town
Too much talking with a laser blade
Gunnin' out of this place in a bullet's embrace
then we'll do it again

How can they say
Jenny could you come back home?
Cause everybody knows you don't
Ever wanna come back
let me be the one to save you

Gravity, don't mean too much to me
I'm who I've got to be
These pigs are after me, after you
Run away, like it was yesterday
When we could run away
When we could run away, run away from here

I'm shootin' out of this room
Because i sure don't like the company
Stop your preaching right there
Cause i really don't care and I'll do it again
So get me out of my head
Cause it's getting kind of cramped you know
Coming ready or not when the motor gets hot we can do it again

The papers say
Johnny won't you come back home?
Cause everybody knows you don't
Want to give up yourself then tell the truth
And God will save you

Gravity, don't mean too much to me
I'm who I've got to be
These pigs are after me, after you
Run away, like it was yesterday
And we could run away
If we could run away, run away from here

And though i know how much you hate this
Are you gonna be the one to save us
From the black and hopeless feeling
Will you mean it when the end comes reeling
Hold your heart into this darkness
Will it ever be the light to shine you out
Or fail and leave you stranded
I ain't gonna be the one left standing
You ain't gonna be the one left standing
We ain't gonna be the ones left standing

Gravity, don't mean too much to me
Is this our destiny
This world is after me, after you
Run away, like it was yesterday
And we could run away
Run away, run away
Run away from here

"Will you mean it when the end comes reeling" -- I'm struggling not to call this the best lyric on the album.

I've been of the firm belief for some years now that no album but a post-apocalyptic album is worth a damn, and that line is exactly how I describe the zombie apocalypse as it comes crashing towards me.

Also, hard not to compare this album to Year Zero, so any and all references to pigs come through a heavy NIN filter in my brain. Big fan of how stark the lyrics are at the beginning, since it strikes me as a pretty noticeable deviation from standard MCR worthy of a clear pronouncement.

Jenny and Johnny... generic Killjoy types who ran along with them? Specific individuals... is the girl elsewhere affirmatively named and I don't know it?

Finally, disjointed thoughts... bullet's embrace and we'll do it again... anything about the fact that they're all bulletproof and the laser guns don't kill them? So they get shot up, in the bullet's embrace, and do it again the next day (aka, SING)?

I know exactly what you mean. Even in terms of sound, you can hear some NIN coming through in it. Mikey is using a distortion pedal numerous times, and playing bass is a very NIN fashion. And obviously the pigs reference.. Can't comment on the comparison to Year Zero.. Only NIN album I don't have..

Wow, if NIN reformed, went on a world tour and MCR opened for them, it would be incredible.

Mostly Year Zero is a natural comparison because it's about the government putting mind control drugs in the water supply and creating a lovely 1984 corporate regime. Also aliens. And there best song on the album is probably the Great Destroyer and it sounds slightly like Destroya.

To clarify, one of the thing's I find so impressive about every subsequent MCR album is how well they refer to, interpret, and expand upon what's been happening in music lately. The album's don't exist in a vacuum, so they're about 18 times better.

Anyone else think the bridge is a kind of call-and-response?
"And though i know how much you hate this
Are you gonna be the one to save us
From the black and hopeless feeling
Will you mean it when the end comes reeling"
Thought just struck me that it might be from the point of view of fans, or just anyone that hopes for or even expects help from another source (ie, the band). I might be treading on Save Yourself's territory, but they have mentioned frequently how they're sort of reversing their "saving lives is the point of this" mentality.

"Hold your heart into this darkness
Will it ever be the light to shine you out
Or fail and leave you stranded
I ain't gonna be the one left standing
You ain't gonna be the one left standing
We ain't gonna be the ones left standing"
If we're still going along with my idea, this would be the response to the first section, and be saying you have to fight your own battles, and find your own way out, but you're strong enough to do it.

Any opinions? Smile

Run away, like it was yesterday - Perhaps a reference to The Kids From Yesterday, and meaning that they've grown up now, they're not kids anyway, and they know they have a responsibility to fulfill. But then, all they want is to be young again and to be able to run away? I'm not entirely sure; mostly just taking stabs in the dark right now.

Right now I'm starting to think Johnny and Jenny actually refer to Party Poison and Girl...

EDIT:: KHelenaF, I think you're exactly right. I remember Gerard mentioning in an interview one time that though people might say 'MCR saved my life', it was really the person themselves that are the strong ones, that saved themselves, even if MCR provided a soundtrack for it.

I read on a yahoo answer.
I got a bullet proof Heart
You got a hollow point smile

This person said, that it could mean that he has a very closed protected heart, and this girl is trying to get to his heart with her awesome smile. He has it bullet proofed and she has well... the person on yahoo said that hollow points are bullets. For example, And if she had like a chainsaw probably he'd fall in love very hard.

"You're gonna be the one left standing gravity don't mean too much to me is this our destiny this world is after me,after you" What I personally think it means is that you're strong against others, nothing is gonna stand in your way,and that people will always try to bring you down but you've just got to keep fighting for what you want.
