Eclipse Killjoy Age: 53 Gender: Female Posts: 96 | Ready.To.Smile: Read it, and still don't have any clearer understanding of emo. The author defines it as "Hardcore Emotional," and cites many band of which I've never heard (save Husker Du). Sounds just like another label to me, and I pretty much detest labeling. It's just another way of pigeonoling music, despite how eclectic the artist. |
eepshyes Shotgun Sinner Age: - Gender: Female Posts: 7323 | I think...I think as long as you don't take it too far, you can look up to them however much you want. If you wanna look up to them as gods, go right ahead witcha bad self. If you don't start like, stalking them, then you're okay. Don't anaylize every move they make. But if they were aiming to get famous, then why feel sorry for them? |
fabulous killjoy. Moderator Age: 31 Gender: Female Posts: 46256 | Eclipse:It's a music genre. It isn't a label. It's just like saying MCR is rock. It's not labeling, it's a genre of music. It's just like saying Jay-Z is hip-hop and Britney Spears is pop. It's all musical. Not a labeling of people. Hardcore Emotional is the genre. It's not "ZOMG LOOK HE LOOKZ EMO" or "HE CUTZ HIZ WRISTS". That's labeling. |
Eclipse Killjoy Age: 53 Gender: Female Posts: 96 | Lord Corganmort.: Gotcha!!! Thanks for clarifying. I really didn't realize it was a genre...ans you're absolutely right about stereotypes. It just goes to show that you can stereotype music just like you can stereotype people....although I think Emo may be more of a sub-genre than an actual genre. I don't see how it would span near as much musical territory as, say, pop or rock. Rock involves so many different factions...like punk rock, alternative rock, southern rock, etc., which are all sub-genres of one particular genre...rock. Emo just sounds like another sub-genre of rock. Anyhow, am I on the right track?! |
