I've never heard of surrogate mothers trying to keep the baby, but I don't think it would be horrible if they where allowed to interact with the child after she gives it up. The same kind of myth exists about open adoptions. If the parents explain it to there child there is no need for the child to be confused or for the parents to worry.

I've also never heard of sperm donors trying to find children of theirs. That seems ridiculous. With surrogate mothers it's different because they carry the baby, but the father?

What I find interesting is that if you resulted from a sperm donor, you could have lots of siblings that you don't even know about. There's actually a site that they can find each other through. I believe it came about because a child wanted to meet the man whose sperm he/she(I don't remember) was born from, but instead he found siblings of his.

Actually, there was just an Oprah show about that (ah summer, it causes one to watch things one normally wouldn't). Apparently several men want to find the children they've helped create by donating sperm, but many more still prefer anonymity.

Oh Oprah...
That's so ridiculous, once they donate that sperm, it's not theirs any more.

That's what I think. I mean, it's not like you "fathered" any child or helped raise them. You whacked off into a cup. You're not a father, you're just a DONOR. To me, it's a world of difference. That's how I see my blood father. All he did was get my mother pregnant, then disappoint and leave. I'd much rather see my stepdad as my real father, because he's done what a father should. Just because your sperm helped make a baby happen doesn't mean you're entitled to call yourself father if you haven't put in the work.

exactly, wasn't there like some case or something were like some donor was gonna sue for custidal rights or something? I mean yeah it would be cool to meet that son thats related to you, but you can't just come in and demand something from them, even to like just say hi, what really gives you that much right? I mean my radio station guy was gonna "donate" his sperm for about a hundred bucks a cup.
