Hip hop music, also known as rap music, is a style of music which came into existence in the United States during the mid-1970s, and became a large part of modern pop culture during the 1980s. It consists of two main components: rapping (MCing) and DJing (production and scratching). Along with hip hop dance (notably breakdancing) and urban inspired art, or notably graffiti, these compose the four elements of hip hop, a cultural movement that was initiated by inner-city youth, mostly African Americans in New York City, in the early 1970s.

Since most topic on rappers woudn't get much response on here, use this topic to discuss you favorite rap artists.

Some rappers I like:
Eminem
Tupac
Dr. Dre
The Game
Jay-Z
Notorious B.I.G.
N.W.A
Sean Paul

I made this to talk about the new The Game album, Doctor's Advocate.
Has anyone heard it?
I have and it's not as good as I thought it will be. =/

Rap gets a bad...well, rap. I mean it's like any other form of music. The mediocre crap tends to go mainstream, the good stuff stays underground. But to just write the genre off completely, saying "rap is crap", without trying to look for good artists, like so many peole on this site and beyond do, is wrong. And this is coming from someone who's no big rap fan.

Right now I'm really into Throw Some Ds and other stuff by Rich Boy. I think the song is really catchy plus it's got one of those throw-away morals that makes it easier for me to like. I'm also really into "This Is Why I'm Hot" by MIMS (Music Is My Savior) and Wouldn't Get Far by The Game.

I don't really care for the Ludacris song, "Runaway Love" I think? Maybe because, it doesn't really say in the song, "hey, don't runaway, stay where you are, finish school, make something of yourself." It's just like, "run away from home for maximum cool points!" I understand it's a touchy subject, but still. I can't really figure out what it's trying to sa and to me it's very easily mis-interpreted.

A rapper a lot of people don't know about, Young Dro, has this pretty amazing CD out. I donloaded it off kinixton and it is pretty fly, I really like it.

Oh, and is anyone else kinda pissed at Pharrel these days? He's so focused on BBC, BAPE, and Ice Cream that he hasn't done anything. I miss the old N*E*R*D days or even when he used to just do features on songs, he really brought some sense of suave-ness (not a word?) to the whole rap feild. Lupe Fiasco was supposed to be the new version of him I guess? But Lupe kinda fizzled when he made his like third single a song that only Nas could pull off.

I don't know, with Nas I think his CD is actually got pretty good tracks.
I don't listen to it to get crunk or anything, but it does definitley have those good songs on it.
Maybe, for a Nas album, though? I can see how it could be a let-down.

LMAO.
"Tupac lives."
In English, we all got assigned a role in Juilius Ceaser as one of the conspirators,
and the english teacher was Ceasar, and we had to fake-stab her,
while shouting out why we were doing it.
And I was I think Publius and had no idea what to say so I was like.
"TUPAC LIVEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS." when I stabbed Ceasar XD

AH. RAPTHREAD<33333333.

anyway. I adore rap, so much. I grew up with it, and it's been with me for years.

As I read Sam talking about Tupac, it makes me laugh because I was watching a Chris Rock HBO comedy thing,
and he was taking about how hard it is to defend rap these days, because even though not all rap is degrading, some of it is.
And he was talking about how all the good rappers are dead like Tupac and Notorious B.I.G. and people like that.
And he said, "you're telling me that you can find Osahma (sp?) in a hole, but you can't find who shot Tupac in Vegas?
HE GOT SHOT IN VEGAS. ON THE STRIP. And you're telling me they can't find who killed him?"

And then he's like, "every year, Tupac comes back from the dead,
records a new album with clues, telling us WHO killed him.
'The man in the red shot me dead. It was a brotha named Kevin with a AK47.
SEE, SEE! TUPAC IS TRYING TO TALK TO US!"

But in general I like most rap. The good rappers, anyway.
Not a fan of Nelly or The Game or any of them.
Nas and Will Smith (old school, of course), Diddy, T.I., etc.
<333

I think T.I. is so damn hot.

I know what you mean. Pharrell is kind of... I don't know. He's not doing his own thing. I miss N.E.R.D, and his songs were amazing then, like "Maybe" and stuff like that.
But I really, really like Lupe Fiasco. His CD is great. He has a "Kick, Push II", and he sings about like real life events. He has a lot of good features with Jay-Z and such. It's just overall a really, really good CD.

I know! Only, I still love Pharrell. I want new music from him, him doing his own thing, not him being like, "oh I am a fashion designer slash rapper slash mogul." And I love Lupe, I stole a poster of him & Lil' Wayne from this urban store, I just think that with "Daydreamin'" he might have killed his career. I udnerstand how cool it is to want to do your own thing but I think from his CD, there were better songs besides that, that mgiht have helped his career. You know what I mean?

THE REMIX TO INGITIONNNNNN.
That song like, defined the summer between sixth and seventh grade for me.
I was in a new town, i had moved there over the summer, I didn't know anybody, I spent all my time online or swimming in the pool of the apartment complex my family was living in, and all I ever did was sit in the muggy little two-room apartment reading Shonen Jump and watching Serial Experiments Lain.

I hate R. Kelly now, all this Trapped In the Closet stuff, and I don't really know his new stuff beyond that and That's That, but that one song, "Ignition: Remix", it's always got a good memory for me.

I was way into rap music a few years ago, mostly b/c that's all my sister listens to & we just shared music.
Then I got out of it, but now I'm back into a lot of hip hop, again.

Just a list of artists I like:
Jay-Z
Ludacris
T.I.
Snoop Dogg
Dr. Dre
Kanye West
Nas
Pharrell/N.E.R.D.
some Sage Francis & Saul Williams
& I used to be really into OutKast.

There are probably others that I just can't think of r/n.

Sage Francis is amazing.
"An awful waste of human skin who waits for autumn to being my fall from grace will do me in too late."
I forgot to ever re-download Runaways, ahaha, and I love that song.
Anyone wanna put it on SendSpace for me maybebaby?
