Mindfuck Always Born a Crime Age: - Gender: Female Posts: 5614 | To be honest, I really don't think it is any of America's business as to what goes on in another country... but - if it were a human rights issue, which it is, then I think that other countries, not just America, should intervene. That's why there are UN peacekeeping troops stationed in war-torn countries like Afganistan. |
johnny walker eyes. Demolition Lover Age: - Gender: Female Posts: 18195 | Please change the name of this thread. Its spelt 'countries' not 'countrys' Sorry, im just abit picky with my spelling >< Also, i dont think america should be the only one to care. Its a world thing. America doesnt control the world >< |
Beeblebrox Really Not Okay Age: 44 Gender: Female Posts: 688 | If your next door neighbor was getting the shit beat out of them by a psychotic criminal minded person would you ignore their pleas for help or would you call the authorities to come to their aid? It might be another country, but we're all neighbors on this planet and we should always look out for one another and be compassionate human beings. |
racoon man Salute You in Your Grave Age: 28 Gender: Male Posts: 2374 | thank you fo replying to this post it means alot |
Eclipse Killjoy Age: 53 Gender: Female Posts: 96 | Beeblebrox: That's a good question. Honestly, I wouldn't wait for the authorities to intervene...I would intervene myself. I don't care if I'm a female....I have a crowbar, AND a cutting torch, and I know how to use them. If a psychotic stranger was beating my neighbor to death....well, let's just say that a goalie stick, when used appropriately, can inflict a lot of damage. THAT IS, is the guy was out-of-control. |
snow at christmas. Crash Queen Age: 38 Gender: Male Posts: 31690 | draculaj.r:America needs to deal with its own torture situation first. Guantanamo should be shut down, and non-citizens should be given the right to a fair trial before being shut away as terrorists. We're doing the same thing, and we need to clean it up before we go shouting about how it's wrong elsewhere. But yes, America should help. But not the way the government seems to define "help" now. Aid should be sent, but aid without strings attached. |
Mr.Armstrong Awake and Unafraid Age: 36 Gender: Female Posts: 12135 | i really think this thread is pointless because America has nothing to do with the system of government or rights in another country.America has problems on its own. |
snow at christmas. Crash Queen Age: 38 Gender: Male Posts: 31690 | xMyBlackDaliahx:You're kidding, right? America has NOTHING to do with Iraq. Of course not. And NOTHING to do with all these other countries from which it gets cheap labor. No, they just let the places do their own thing, they don't try at ALL to adjust things so that it works better for them. Oh, and NOTHING to do with Cuba, that embargo didn't affect Cuba at all. There are more examples, obviously, but I'm not gonna spend all day on that. America has a lot of influence. And how it uses it to affect other countries is a matter of great importance. And it is one of the "problems on its own". If we lose favor with the entire world, do you really think America will survive? |
Mindfuck Always Born a Crime Age: - Gender: Female Posts: 5614 | xMyBlackDaliahx: Ahem? America is [at the moment] the biggest power in the world [I realise that China is also heading that way]. Hence, the American leader, George W. Bush, is the most powerful person in the world. How can you possible say America has nothing to do with the system of government in other countries? I think pretty much everyone in the entire world, particularly the Middle East, will have to disagree with you there. |
Beeblebrox Really Not Okay Age: 44 Gender: Female Posts: 688 | There is definitely a certain naivéte amongst people in the U.S., there's this thought that all countries operate as isolated islands and basically keep to themselves. But in fact we extend ourselves into other countries through acts of diplomacy so that we can buy, sell, trade and travel amongst other nations. We are a global people and we (ideally) work together to cooperate and help one another out. The U.S. is a member of the United Nations and as such, we work with other countries to bring about world peace, security and human betterment. This involves issues such as civil rights and bodies of government in nations other than our own. |
Mr.Armstrong Awake and Unafraid Age: 36 Gender: Female Posts: 12135 | what im trying to say is that america is its own country. There fore they shouldnt interfear with another countrys government to stop laws etc. Its the peoples descion of that country if they want that law or not. These are my beliefs. Once again pointless thread |
Mindfuck Always Born a Crime Age: - Gender: Female Posts: 5614 | This isn't a pointless thread at all. I think there can be a myriad of things to be discussed. Such as - Yes, America is it's own country. If you want to look at it that way, then theoretically every single country on earth is it's own country / nation state. Which is true... but as Beeblebrox mentioned, nation states rely on each other in terms of economic policies, trade, diplomacy etc. Australia [where I'm from] at the moment has an ANZUS treaty with New Zealand and America. Which, in simple terms, means we are allies. We are dependent on each other in some ways. This comes into play on the issue of human rights abuses in other countries. Getting back to the original topic, other nation states have somewhat of an obligation to countries where severe torture is happening. What do you think the United Nations is, then? Do you think they are useless? Having said that, America should not be the answer to solve all problems. In a way, the countries have to sort it out for themselves, but... you have to remember that a lot of these countries that have torture etc. also have corrupt governments. And corrupt governments have an impact on the way the world works. |
Beeblebrox Really Not Okay Age: 44 Gender: Female Posts: 688 | Thank you, Plush. Again, it's this false idea that other countries are just as strong as we are in the US. Some countries are not capable of freeing themselves from an opressive government and saying "no, we don't want that law". People in other parts of the world do not enjoy the same freedoms we do here in the states. In some nations, you cannot speak out against your government at all and failure to comply could result in execution or imprisonment. So, that's when other countries come to their aid. You can't just say "f**k them" because it's their own problem. |
genresR4losers Motor Baby Age: 34 Gender: Female Posts: 817 | well... just to let everyone know that might read this... i didn't read any of the posts of above me... just wanted to make that clear... i think that the power countries should stay out of the affairs of the other countries... unless something that is going on in those other countries directly affects the power countries... i think that if one of the smaller countries is torturing people from one of the power countries... then it should be investigated, and then steps should be taken to prevent it from happeneing again... but i think that for the most part the power countries have a tendency to over-react... and things just get ugly... |
DIE! DIE! DIE! Bleeding on the Floor Age: 33 Gender: Female Posts: 1067 | It's not our business but you know, we also tourture people. We call it "interregation". It includes sound/drowning touture. They also will starve people. This has been ok'd by OUR government recently. So it's funny so many Bush supports were against Saddam. We are playing his game now. |
UndyingSoul. Really Not Okay Age: 34 Gender: Female Posts: 722 | I think that every country should be helping. I dont understand why it's always up to America to save everybody... |
Mindfuck Always Born a Crime Age: - Gender: Female Posts: 5614 | Every country should be helping, yes. But the fact remains that America holds a lot of power in this world, and it is a key player / actor in world politics. It's also a very influential nation. In terms of politics, if America stopped 'helping' countries with less power, then who knows what could happen? The world might turn to shit. It's just how international politics works. Large political / economic powers such as America are quite often the only ones capable of 'helping' other countries. |
Beeblebrox Really Not Okay Age: 44 Gender: Female Posts: 688 | DIE! DIE! DIE!: genresR4losers: So, in your view, when my next door neighbor last year was thrown against the wall outside my apartment, beaten by a man until broken and had a gun held to her head while her two toddlers watched, I should have just turned up my stereo and ignored her screams and her childrens cries for help? Whether it's someone living next door or across the border, I'm going to act compassionately. I'm going to help out because no one, regardless of what town, city, state or country they live in deserve to be tortured. |
the sharpest lives. Shotgun Sinner Age: 30 Gender: Female Posts: 8710 | I think any kind of torture in our contry and/or other countries is wrong. America doesn't control the world but we seem to be the only ones attempting to do anything about it. |
