We have a pornography thread and a child abuse thread, but this is different.
This is pertaining to children being sold into the sex industry: pornography or sex slave.
On further thought, human trafficking can also be added to this thread.

Trafficking in human beings, sometimes called human trafficking, or sex trafficking (as the majority of victims are women or children forced into prostitution) is not the same as people smuggling.

I'm sure everyone agrees this is a bad thing so the discussion should probably be on causes of this and ways to prevent it.

This is not a confession or horror story thread.
Only post an personal anecdote if it contributes and you state some sort of opinion other than 'this is wrong' after it.

Here is a definition on child trafficing:Trafficking refers to the illegal transport of human beings, in particular women and children, for the purpose of selling them or exploiting their labor.

Human trafficking involves kidnapping large numbers of people, smuggling them into a country and then forcing them to work as prostitutes or do forced labor.

I think that as PassionBetweenLovers said, that taking a childs innocence away from them is disgusting.
How do the kids get out of this loop? Why were they chosen? What kind of things do they do? Just thinking about it is terrible.
And what about long term effects? Suicidal tendencies, self mutilation etc.
I cant believe how someone could do that to another human being.

By doing that to anyone is disgusting. How can they ever live normally again?

Comfort women is a euphemism for the up to 200,000 women who served in the Japanese army's brothels during World War II. Historians and researchers into the subject have stated that the majority were from Korea, China and other occupied territories and were recruited by force or deception to serve as "sex slaves."

No chatspeak, please.

Free The Children is an absolutely amazing organization created to help get children out of forced sex trades/sweat shops etc.
You don't need to do a lot to help these kids through this organization.

It's disgusting and horrific what is happening to children around the world every day.
I do believe that we can stop it all, but we just choose not to, because 'it's not our problem'.

i think its an issue that is 'brushed under the rug' and many people remain uneducated about it, really its not as pubic as things such as child abuse or domestic violence i mean it hardly ever gets media coverage which is sad as it possibly more damaging to those involved due to the lack of support from the public to organisations which try to put a stop to it .

It is horrific no one deserves to be treated in such a way and no one has the right to do that to any other person i dont understand how some people can be so cruel, and i agree that people brush it off because its not their own problem but it is a problem of humanity which we are all somehow part of so is it not our responsibility to contribute to finding a solution to the problem, even something small such as raising awareness is helping but i guess people are too wrapped up in their own lives to give a damn. When did the world become so selfish?

This is what I found on the most reasent child trafficking:
"I was watching MSNBC lastnite about child sex trafficing. The story was about how tourists goes to Cambodia for child sex. It's like prostiution but with kids and stuff. I was shock about how young the girls were. The youngest was 5 yrs ol and she had already know how to give oral sex. they were talking bout with $600 u can buy a girl and take her to a hotel for 3 nights and they were like 15. Then there was this place called Savy Pak where they runs little kids from 5-10yrs old for sex. For $90 u can get 3 lil kids to give u oral. They promise these kids jobs in the city but tricked into prostituion, kidnap or bought from they're family. For lil kids they train them by useing the word boom-boom and yum-yum. I think u know what they are. I'm half cambo so to hear this bout my country is a really sad thing. It happen all over southeast asia and the "
goverment can't really do nothing bout it."
That's just in Cambodia here's one in Africa:
"The rate at which child trafficing is increasing daily in Nigeria is quite alarming. This trend paints an ugly picture on the already battered image of our country. It has become a life threathening ailment. For instance, the truck load of children caught with a woman recently. These children were packed in that rruck like sardines in a can. Very dehumanising! Another example is the orphanage in Lagos that breeds children for the purpose of selling them to the highest bidder.

A lot of reasons had been adduced for this pathetic trend that has a debilitating effect on manpower development and economic output. One of such reasons experts had identified, is the craze to get rich fast. Oftentimes, people who engage in child trafficing do so for personal economic empowerment, ritualistic purposes and slavish child labour. It must be noted here in passing that child trafficing leads to child labour and it subsequent twin sister child abuse. A merchant that deals in this type of trade does so to gain financially.

Secondly, greed to acquire a certain level of occultic powers make people engage in it. They use it to fortify themselves. Thirdly, mention should be made of the present unemployment and economic hardship that had made the minds of people to resort to evil without their conscience.

The efforts of some NGOs in Nigeria should be commended. Hajia Titi Abubakar, the wife of the vice president had initiated a frontal war against child traffickers. It was through her that the methodology of their operation was made public. In spite of what had been accomplished so far, much more need to be done to totally eradicate this menace.

Aggressive enlightenment program should be launched in the media to further highlight the dangers associated with this evil.

Finally, the Authorities vested with the power of enforcement should not treat this barons with kids gloves, rather they should be punished and severally dealt with. When this is done, it would serve as a deterent to those who are intending to engage in this illicit act. "

This is even more inhumane and disgusting:
Indonesian authorities have taken steps to protect displaced or orphaned children from traffickers after last week's tsunami disaster, barring people from leaving the country with children under 16 from its hard-hit Aceh province.

Riaz Saehu, the press secretary for the Indonesian Embassy in Washington, said Jakarta was implementing the measure because "the government would like to protect the children" from potential traffickers.

"We are afraid the children can be taken advantage of," he said.

The disaster is believed to have left as many as 13,000 children orphaned in the region.

But John Budd, a spokesman for the U.N. children's fund UNICEF, said it was unclear how many children had lost parents or were only separated from their families.
Budd said the fears have been stoked by reports from relief agencies that criminal gang members in Aceh have been posing as aid workers or parents.

And a couple was arrested on charges of attempting to traffic in children in the city of Medan, which he said was "notorious" for the practice -- "both for adoption and for the sex trade."
UNICEF is working with Indonesia's government to set up child centers in the region to help reunite orphaned children with members of their extended families, he said.

Indonesian officials and aid workers began setting up a registration system for children Tuesday, Budd said.

"The Indonesian government -- the president and vice president, as well as the police here -- are deeply concerned about it, and we're supporting them," he said.

Another UNICEF official, Simon Ingram, said there are indications "traffickers are active" in the tsunami-stricken regions.
