I quite honestly think they are bs. I mean we (the USA) are spending millions monthly on a war that is going absolutely no where and yet we have to cut classes and cut educational jobs due to lack of funding. I think are priorities are way off.

Ireland use to be like the shithole of Europe, but then they really set education in and now it's becoming a nice place.

But since we are in such a crisis, why don't we offer more things, have companies sponser schools (more then just Target) have kids in high school get credit more for taking community school coarses, it'll help keep kids off the street. I honestly think this is all really stupid. We complain about how America's youth is acting but yet we cut them off from electives and good teachers so what are they gonna do?

I so agree. In my town we are big into sports. I hate sports so I decided to go and play the bass in our orchestra. It sounds nerdy but it's acctually fun. Mr. Green
Then we find out that we need to cut somethings out of the schools. They wanted to cut out music and I was so mad because it's the only thing in school that I can relate too. Music is still going and survived the cut but what about next time? what about when it acctually does get cut? Of course no one wants to cut the sports. They just have to pick on the dedicated aspiring musicians. Its really sad to see what our country has become. No

It is very sad. my mom was telling me about how they are getting rid of the marching band at my brother's school, and are eliminating some of the sports...it really sucks because it seems like as time goes on, less and less people are getting involved in school activities, such as marching band, because the school is constantly asking parents for more money than they used to

If your schools has a good sports program and good teams that win a lot, then no, of course they are not going to cut it. There are more scholarships for sports than there are for practically anything else. It's unfair to cut the music program but it would be equally unfair to cut the sports program. Especially if it means that some kids won't be able to go to collage because they're only chance was a sports scholarship. The same thing applies to any program, but a lot of people in this thread seem to be very against sports.

It's not like I'm completely against sports. I mean if certain people love it than more power to them. I mean I love to play tennis. But while it wouldn't be fair to cut the sports, at the same time people need to realize that the music program we have is very important to some people. Our music program is just as wonderful as the sports. We win second place in competitions and we work just as hard. I just think our town needs to see a little more on how the music is important to the kids who aren't as athletic and don't enjoy physical education, but enjoy what instrument they play.
