The National Institute of Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) advises the NHS on what drugs to give patients access to. There have been cases where people have not had access to potentially life saving drugs on the NHS, and so have had to resort to buying them. In order to get the money, they have had to remortage their homes, sell their cars, or even give up their pensions in order to pay for these drugs. NICE says that these drugs do not offer value for money.
