its funny because back in the day (over like 200 years ago) people fell in love instantly, and usually stayed in love.

Umm no, people just didn't get divorces because women where considered the property of their husbands.
No matter what day and age love has always been a very complicated thing.

i never said anything about divorce, i'm talking about real love, yes in many of the marriages in that time period where because of reasons asided from love. many of them had nothing to do with love, but i'm talking about the ones that did, and i did say that it still exists just in complicated forms, love itself its complicated yes, but now, the words arent as strong as they once were because its thrown around so much. in that time period love was a strong word and wasnt used as much, they used love when they felt that emotion, we use now because it sounds good, in my opinion anyways.

And how would there be any way to tell the ones that did from the ones that didn't. In that time period love and nothing to do with marriage. I agree with you that the word love is tossed around to much now a days and that it cheapens the meaning of it. I don't see how you draw the conclusion that is wasn't used much back then. I'm sure there where just has many infatuated teens sighing over some man and thinking there in love back then as there are now.

I believe in it more than anything else.
Even more so since I don't have any god to worship.

For me if I didn't believe in god then I wouldn't believe in love either, because I believe that god is love.

I belive that if you find love, you've lived life. If you find the one that your going to be with for the rest of your life, then you have nothing to worry about. And a relationship is built on trust, and if you can trust the person you love, than you don't love them.

^ Love for a person is not the same as love for God, and it's a cumulative thing. True love is something that happens over time, once the infatuation stage is finally over. It's living out those marriage vows, not just taking them. However, love takes on many forms, and sex is not the same thing as love. True love is also the knowledge that you would lay down your life for your child. It's getting that warm glow of happiness when you're around your closest friends; knowing that you can be 100% yourself without judgment. True love is curling up next to your mother because she makes you feel safe; hugging your father because he lets you know that he's proud of you; visiting your grandmother because she took such good care of you as a child.

True love is the strong emotion that tugs at your heart when you're around YOUR people, whomever they may be.

I wasn't saying love for God, but that God is love.

- what is TRUE love?
when you'd give anything for that person. where you'd die just to see them smile.

- is there even such a thing?
I believe there is. You cant compare youre definition of love to other peoples because we're all different. so yes, in my opinion, there is.

- what makes TRUE love different than any other type of love?
Because it is complete, and it is bigger than you are.
There's lust, which is just physical. and theres fancying, which is ooooh look at him wouldnt mind some. but thats no where near true love.

Does that count for family and friends?

Personally, I hate the whole "I'd die for you" schtick. I'd much rather have the people I loved live for me and stay alive so I can enjoy their company.

Yeah, I suppose it can.
Okay, when you do all of the above, but you feel complete. You don't know how you'd live without them. Like they are part of you.
Damn, it still sounds like family and friends, cos its hard to describe.
Maybe it's just a feeling you know inside.

I met my husband in '99, since we became an item, no other man or woman has ever matched up to him. He is simply the one. Home is with him and as long as I have him, I can take over the world.
That's true love for me Smile

I think that "true love" is being able to wait until marriage to have sex... If you can wait, ur strong enough to make it through marriage.. Also, almost 80% of people who have sex before marriage break up...

Yeah, I think true love exists. But a lot of people have the idea of true love as being madly, deeply in love with each other 24/7 and not going through really tough times, so when they think they find true love and go through their first real hardship, they quit.
True love is staying with that one person even when you want to bite their head off (figuratively of course!) And still loving that person when you see all of their bad habits and flaws that utterly disguist you.

But what would I know? True love has yet to come for me

Sources for these "facts" of yours?

All love isn't about sex. If you think true love constitutes as waiting until after marriage, then doesn't that make sex the basis for a relationship? That their focus (or rather, intent non-focus) on sex makes their relationship legit? Then, couldn't I argue, that if the only thing that makes true love true is sex, that true love is having sex before you get married?

Abstinence is ridiculous. Instead of telling our kids no and hoping they'll obey us, why don't we educate them about what can happen and what sex is about, that way they're able to handle it when they come to it and that way they know how to use protection? Do you honestly expect all hormonal teenagers to be able to keep their libidos in check? I'd rather give them condoms than leave them un-educated and hope for the best while balancing it on their fragile hormones.
