Gerard's first comic proven not to be The Umbrella Academy

It has been brought to public attention by a disgruntled Hart D. Fisher the Renegade Publisher of Boneyard Press, that The Umbrella Academy has been wrongly dubbed Way’s first comic. Fisher published two editions of what in fact was Way’s first comic entitled ‘On Raven’s wings’ in 1994, though the sixteen year old Gerard was penning under the name Garry Way. Fisher eagerly, trying to get some recognition for being the actual first publisher of Way’s first comic spoke out against Dark Horse.

“So did a big company like Dark Horse knowingly commit fraud on the public in their advertisements touting these books by Gerard as his first foray into comics, or were they unknowing dupes. How many kids bought this comic book, The Umbrella Academy, because it was the first.”

Fisher claims to have been trying to get in contact with Way, yet came to the conclusion on the lack of interaction on Way’s part that Gerard was avoiding him while Way responded with this recent statement.

“I sent [Hart] an email years ago, before we finished ‘Revenge,’ thanking him for believing in me, and never got a response. I think I emailed him once again as well…never heard anything back. I’m not ashamed of what I did for him, and wanted to see him in person and thank him. I’ve never had the chance.”

Well thats awesome. I dont think DH should have been so soon to announce that it was 'his first comic'- Altho I support DH comics. I love them.

But in honesty, Does it matter? He's a great artist/singer/musician/writter/ whatever.

Just be happy he HAS a comic out.

    *proud smile*

I don't remember it ever being claimed as his first comic.. either way people who are reading The Umbrella Academy are going to keep doing so because they like it not because they thought it was his first comic.

I don't believe Gerard or anyone ever said TUA was the first nor did they ever deny Gerard did work prior to TUA. As such, the headline is misleading -

I don't think Gerard ever claimed it was his first comic. The 'feud' was pretty childish, anyway.
...And I bought Gerard's comic because it was GOOD not because it was his 'first.'

  • So Bitter.

yea, that guy is pretty lame, especially since Gerard didn't deny that it the other comic was his first.

    but still c00l news.

Well, who bought it because it was the FIRST comic and not because it was just an awesome comic? I don't think anyone would have bought it because it was the first one.

    I agree with Agent Zilch.
As long as Gerard's getting things published, that's fantastic.
And if this Hart guy didn't respond earlier when Gerard tried to get in contact with him, he shouldn't be reaping the glory now.

(And there are some grammatical errors on this, as well.)

    dude, thats pretty childish

tbh i dont think it matters if it's his first comic or not
