I think it's pretty straight forward when Gerard said that it had to do with the society going on and how it's changing.

I know it's actually metaphorical for modern society and all, but honestly, I just like to look at it as a fun song about actual vampires.

I'm not terribly philosophical, really, but I do like a good thriller. Very Happy

Vampires Will Never Hurt You, is a metaphor for how today's society is changing us and is trying to get us to be one of them, just like Vampires bite their victims so they become vampires.

yes, but i think it also has to do with Gerard's fasination with horror and vampires.

It could also be about protecting someone you love from something, when you deny yourself that you are actually one of them

just a guess.

i agree.. but it is definately about society and how he's trying to protect the ones he loves from "becoming one of them" he's said that it's about society
what's this part about? "...they come in pairs..she said we'll shoot back Holy Water like cheap whisky"

This is without a doubt my favorite MCR song, by far. They put my mind into a song, thats probably the best way to put it.
"We'll shoot back holy water like cheap whiskey, they're always there"

^ Thats about how Gerard knows that the dead society will still be there, no matter how hard he stands up against them. I think it might also have to do with how the alcohol he used would numb his pain, but it would just come back again after it wore off. (In reference to the "cheap whiskey", not in price range obviously but how small the effect it would have on him) But I'm not sure on the last part, thats just an assumption.

Ok, I'd like to agree with the last poster (Can I play with Madness) The line "we'll shoot back holy water like cheap whiskey, they're always there" its a line referencing to society about no matter what we do we cant change the already changing society.....if that makes sense to yawl! I mean its like death no matter how much we want to stop death it cant and wont happen! I think that what he means except pointed towards society! It could also be a reference to his alcholic days! Like Can I play with madness? stated! I also agree again with another above poster it has to do with his fasination into horror and vampires! I mean we all interpret songs in our own ways many of us have the same interpretations, but one last theory I'd like to add is......"and you must keep your soul like a secret in your throat" I think that means that to "work" properly for society we must hide our true reflections. What I mean by "WORK" and "TRUE REFLECTIONS" is that we have to hide our true selfs in order to be "Good" enough for society! SOrry if I confused you!

And as always, innocent like roller coasters. Fatality is like ghosts in snow and you have no idea what you're up against, because I've seen what they look like. Becoming perfect as if they were sterling silver chainsaws going cascading...

Thats what he whispers

This song is a mini epic that takes on a lot of influence from their love of horror flicks... Like Gerard says in "life on the murder scene" vampires was meant to lock in the darkness and stick it to the band... so that the band can be identified with darker subjects and stuff.. But anyways... I think this song is kinda like a prelude or preface to the story of the couple and the guy having to kill 1000 zombies or evil people to win back his girl.
