Yeah.
I woke up and the the first thing i did was ask my dad who won.
I cheered when he said Obama, he looks like he has a sound head on his shoulders, i hope he takes good care of America, our sister/brother country.
I'm English by the way, but the presidency will affect me too so i wanted obama to win.
I hope him being black really shows the world how much people can change over time and i hope his time will be a good one.

Good luck with your new president friends, we have Gordon Brown and he is kinda annoying! xP

I'm not American, but it's really awesome that he won. He has a lot of realistic ideas and seems dedicated to make them be true. No doubt he will be a great President for the USA. =]

Woo! It's so great, I couldn't be happier. Last night was so much fun, I went out to eat with a bunch of friends after rehersal and we were constantly shouting out Electoral Ballot #s and State Names in the parking lot. Fireworks even went off when he won California. When I got home they announced he was going to be president. Jesus that made me breath easy, finally our country is taking a turn for the better. But I wound up missing his speach cause my parents failed to call me like they said they would.

Today school was interesting. All of us Obama supporters were jabbin on and anoying the conservatives. I unfortunatly heard the term "Socialist" and "Assassinate" alot which is lame to say the least. A friend of mine got all upset cause we were talking about politics after the election was over which was stupid cause everyone could totally see he was just being a sore looser. Another large topic of disscussion was how "Obama only won by a slight margin yada yada yada" Really who cares? He actually WON!

^And none of that 'only won the electoral and not the popular vote' or vice versa. No one cane complain about anything. He won the popular vote and he won the electoral college. End of story.

We were talking in class today and all of us (even the one or two conservatives) said that it's nice to have a president who is:
1. respected by the rest of the world (mostly)
2. and when he opens his mouth he doesn't sound like an idiot. There's no way that anyone could say that Bush is eloquent.

I'm also super excited that my home state went blue for the first time in decades! Go Indiana!!! I really hope he gets Luger in his cabinet. Luger's a republican but he's so good at what he does.
I personally love Obama. I think he'll be a great president. He's a great leader, and he can inspire so many people. I'm actually looking towards the future positively.

I am so happy he won! Except we're stuck with dumbass Bush for another 2 months. And yes, I agree with you Eponine, its nice that he actually sounds intelligent when he speaks. Not only that but I was watching a special a few days ago, and he just seems to talk sense, is level-headed, and his plans sound pretty good. I'm from Illinois so it was pretty much a given that he'd win our state.

I helped work the election, even though I'm not old enough to vote, and we had a great turnout. Its really good to see a lot of young people getting into the elections because of him, it shows that he has a lot of charisma and people are really backing him. Not only here but on the news they were showing people in Australia and Spain who were celebrating Obama's win.

So yeah I am very excited to see what Obama does in the future!

I'm not American, but it doesn't really matter since whatever goes in the states pretty much affects the world anyway, and I am SO happy. I stayed up until about two watching it all happen in CNN online and I knew we wouldn't find out over here until about four and before I went sleep I just thought... tomorrow when I wake up, something amazing will have happened. And it did.

He just sounds so sincere and exciting, I really really hope he delivers. And I got to say, McCain took it quite graciously. When he said Obama's name in his closing speech and everyone booed, he told them to stop and was like 'he's my president too.' Aw.

Anyway, GoBama!

I didnt like either canidates, and im not afraid to admit it. I am not racist
But when a black girl in my school found out that I didnt like Obama, she went ballistic and started calling me racist and that I express it too much. I didn't care for McCain either, I stayed indeprendant throughout the whole race. It wasn't them, it was the ideas that I didnt like.

So- to get a real discussion going.
If someone does not like Obama, should they be considered racist?

If someone doesn't like Obama they shouldn't be considered racist. Unless they say they don't like him because he's black, but I haven't heard that very often.

I'm a bit disappointed in my country. I honestly think the only reason Obama is president is because he's black. I mean, I cannot tell you how many adults of legal voting age I heard say they would only vote for him because he's black. Of course this doesn't mean everyone that voted for him had this reasoning, but I feel that his race had a major impact on his votes. I'm also a bit disappointed in people my age that can't vote yet. I don't think Obama sparked any interest in politics for my generation, it's just he's black and that's different. Like when Arnold Schwarzenegger was running for governor of California, nobody my age cared about his policies, they just knew him as a celebrity and supported him. I think it's the same case with Obama.

^ I agree, I mean, I do think he has a lot of potential as well, but his race gained him a lot of votes. And no, it's not racist to not support him.

I did very much prefer him to McCain, though.

I was recently treated to the backward viewpoint of a person screeching "We have a (n-word) for president!" Sigh...I cannot believe people not only still feel this way, but see fit to VOCALIZE it, especially where I live <shakes head sadly.> It took a lot of restraint for me not to shove my foot up this person's ass.

honestly, we were going over the whole race thing in our Peace Studies class,
and like, only 11% or so of the population is black, so even if they all voted for him,
which i doubt, it wouldn't have made that big of a difference,
cause that leaves about 89% that aren't black that could have voted for him,
and some voted for mccain obviously,
but yeah. no one i know voted for/wanted him to win JUST because he's black.

but yeah. i'm proud of our country, tbqfh.
he's got other issues/views that i really like about him, i could care less than he's black/african american, even if he's only half.

i know a lot of people who DIDN'T want him because he's black, though.
which i think is just ignorant and stupid.

but yeah, i honestly think he could do great for our country if we just give him a try.
tons of people are saying "i give him -blank- months until he's assassinated".

and i think even if you don't ~like~ him, you should atleast give him some respect.
which a lot of people aren't doing that didn't want him to win.

idk, i can go on forever. XD
i just LOVE that he won, even though i don't really like Biden. /:
but i like Biden better than Sarah Palin, so yeah.
/sorry for rambling D:

that isn't really contributing to the discussion and your comment about Bush could actually be rather offensive to some...Please watch what you are saying and don't spam.

I think it is a very cool thing that Obama is our president. I honestly did not think that I would live to see a black president in my lifetime. And while I don't agree with a lot of the things that Obama says, I do prefer him to McCain and Palin.
And, while I do despise politics with every fiber of my being, I am throughly interested in Obama. Biden kind of creeps me out, though. I have nothing against him, he's just kind of icky looking.
I can't wait to see what Obama does to try and fix our country. We are pretty screwed up right now, and I want to see how it all plays out.

I'm really happy-I've been on Obama supporter since the beginning. I just new John McCain wasn't going to win-he's exactly like Bush. Plus, I have yet to meet anyone who thinks Sarah Palin would do a good job. Letting that woman near a national government position is just........

I've been hearing tons of crap-Muslim!Terrorist!Communist! Sucks living in the South.

I'm not American and I'm ecstatic about Barack becoming the first black president, and so is basically everyone I know in the UK. It's such an important day in history, and I must admit watching him and his family on the platform in Chicago did bring a slight tear to my eye. To think only a few decades ago, blacks and other minorities faced segration.

I think he's going to be heavily scrutinised by the right wing media outlets though from the word go, and as soon as a slight problem arises they're probably going to senstionalise it and blame it on those "evil socialist liberals" like a few people already have been.

I'm happy he won, but anyone who comes into office I'm still a little bit skeptical of. When he won, I was happy, though. He's a cool guy. I was happy when he won. I really want this crappy situation in the country to get better before it gets worse. He's cool, and he is realistic about what people need, but always have in mind that sometimes with politicians its tongue and cheek (though I think he is going to try to vhange things) Clap Clap Clap

I'm so happy he won, I found it pretty exciting even though I'm not from America. I'd like to think he didn't win just because he was black, he has so many other things going for him as well. It's so great that he's the first black president and that black people can finally have the opportunity to do things like this, but I hope it's not the fact that Obama is the first black person to do this that defines his presidency.
