Posts: 28660 | February 11th, 2009 at 11:39pm New York’s own smart-mouth, co-ed quartet Mindless Self Indulgence are a force to be reckoned with; on-stage simulated vomiting and making inedible things edible, and just all around insanity. So, it’s no surprise their 2008 CD If is nothing short of chaotic.
Starting with the guitar-driven Never Wanted to Dance, which starts with a very ticked off front-man Jimmy Urine growling “There is nothing you can do that I have not already done to myself”, and showcases guitarist’s Steve, Righ?’s shredding ability, to the sugar-coated grinder that is Issues, which cross-fades into the late-night radio worthy Get It Up, a track guest-stars Urine’s wife, Morningwood vocalist Chantal Claret, crooning “Why can’t you get it up?” and Urine barking in return “It must be your face/Or it’s your body!”.
Not every song on If is a double-entendre, though. Middle track Mastermind is a techno kicker with repetitive, overlaying vocals half based on the tragedy at Columbine (“I am the mastermind/It’s just a problem of mine/It’s just like Columbine”) and half a cornucopia of rebellion (“This message cannot be denied”). Then there’s Pay for It, a song that could be Ashley Tisdale’s fame-minded character’s theme song in the next installment of the Disney franchise High School Musical, if the next installment was directed by Marilyn Manson.
Flaunting the singing abilities of the two female members, drummer Kitty and bassist Lyn-Z, is Revenge, an ode to mocking and backstabbing everyone you knew in school and declaring that Urine is in fact “gothalicious with cheese”.
Ending with my personal favorite song on the record is Mark David Chapman, which is nothing short of an anthem. With lyrics about how when the world’s overrun with too many bands that all sound the same, we’ll need to bring in John Lennon’s killer, Mark David Chapman, in to “thin out the herd”. The track also feature’s Urine’s mom scolding in Spanish with things like, “Where’s all the money you owe me?” and “Stop wearing that ridiculous pink outfit.”
If is an insane album that will scare you into either rebelling or conforming at the same time. Messages and meanings aside, it sure is fun to dance to.

Does anyone know where these pictures are from? They are at least a couple months old since they were posted on another My Chem fansite back in December . But anyway, it's so cute, and Lyn just looks insanely gorgeous. Her outfit is amazing. |

Anyway, does anyone know where that cute pic is with Chantal, Gerard, Lucinda, and whatever Kitty's husband is named? I know Chantal like had her arm slung around Gerard, and I think Gerard might have been in his pink hair stage. Anyways, it's really cool, and I want to see it again. |
