I met someone yesterday and they told me that they didnt like My Chemical Romance because their lyrics are way too harsh. I love their lyrics. It makes me think of life and seeing life through Gerards eyes. It inspires alot of my creativity. What do you guys think? No No

I think you just need to see past the actual words and know what the lyrics mean to like them. Like you have to understand what mcr is all about and stuff, to get the lyrics. I truly think they are beautiful lyrics, that's one of the reasons I love my chem so damn much, but I also think you have to be somewhat into that darkness you know? They use heaps of metaphors and I think that if you don't understand that then the lyrics would just mean absolutely nothing and just be a bunch of words. That's what i think...if that made any sense at all

I understand where that person is coming from, but it's all down to personal taste.

Personally, I need a band with intense lyrics.

i always think lyrics are the most important part of a song.
if my friend lets me listen to some song that she's downloaded, i'll start analyzing the lyrics, asking what it's supposed to mean.
some songs with no meaning whatsoever are great to just dance to and mess around with but i'd prefer heart-felt, deep, clever lyrics over a good riff.
i love my chem's lyrics, it's one of my favourite things about their music.

Some people just can't handle songs that go beyond the superficiality of pop and rap music. Pop lyrics are very direct and simple, and often have nothing deep to say. It lacks the substance and emotion you get in a rock song.

Exactly. Though...certainly not all rap is shallow.

well, sure, some of their lyrics are harsh and they've taken risks with what they write. but that's why i appreciate them. they don't care if it's "too real" or whatever. they know what their true fans want from them.
so really, they should be applauded for what they've written and the risks they took because not very many bands do that nowadays.

I like "harsh" lyrics
Lyrics that make you sit down and think and allow you to interpret it your way and help you cope with problems that you may be dealing with

Most if not ALL are metaphorical.
I mean, yeah, back in the day like with Bullets, they were a little more aggressive, but it doesn't mean they want you to go kill someone.. or something like that.

The lyrics are there so you can take them anyw@y you want to.
If someone takes them as too "harsh" I really just think it's because they won't really listen to them. All the songs have a meaning lying in all the lyrics, and you have to listen to them, maybe more than once, to really get the aggressiveness behind them.

I love the fact that people have thier own opinion abot things and i think that people should express them, but i think that its going just a bit overboared when you take a personal attack on someone elses belifes with your own! I almost felt like what he was saying to me was that i was stupid for listening to the music that i listen too. I think that he could have spoke his opinion without leaving me feeling attacked!!
What are YOUR thoughts???

maybe when you just listen to the song, or quickly read the lyrics, it sounds 'harsh'
but I really think you should really get into a song before you decide it's 'harsh' or anything else.

Like Vampires Will Never Hurt You, when you read the lyrics it does sound a little bit 'harsh' but when you read the lyrics, actually putting time into it and trying to understand it, I think it's absolutely beautiful.

That's one person's opinion. But I think the more powerful the music, the better. It comes from them and they're honest in their music.
