We need to get this shit going.
What are your biggest influences and inspirations? Who sets the creative beast free inside of your limbs?
For me... that's a hard one.
As for the inspiration Coheed and Cambria are making a good job.
But the way I play is more influenced by modern guitarist such as Thomas Erak (The Fall Of Troy) and Omar Rodriguez (At The Drive-In, The Mars Volta etc.). If you've listened to those bands you will know that they have a pretty open minded playing, not sticking to any kind of formula (Omar states he doesn't know any theory), which I think is good for any guitarist.

Age: 31 Gender: Female Posts: 336 | April 4th, 2007 at 06:38pm My biggest influences guitar wise are Eddie Van Halen, Ray Toro, Frank Iero[stage presence wise], and Pat Mcmanaman.
All of them make me aspire to be a great guitarist and I push myself to try to play up to their level or at least TRY to.
Vocaly, it would be Amy Lee, definatly.
She has such a strong voice and it fits in with her bands style of music so well.
It also amazes me how she can write such powerful lyrics.
I have many more, but it would definatly take too long to list them |

My Nana because if it wasn't for her I wouldn't have started playing.

But inspirations would be the lovely Patrick Stump, Joe Trohman,
Andy Hurley, Ray Toro, and I suppose my first inspiration would
have to be my (now-ex) acoustic guitar teacher. |

If we had the sound, stage presence and attitudes they have... we would kick ass.
A personal idol of mine would have to be hide. He made me want to play guitar since the day I first heard him play. After his funeral, when I went to the hide Muesum, I saw his beautiful guitars lines up neatly in plastic boxes for us all to see. They were all worn from being played so hard, and scratched up and faded paint from all the lives he put on.
That's what I want to be. |

My Chemical Romance - Each for different reasons.
Freddie Mercury, David Bowie, The Sex Pistols and Iron Maiden - I grew up with them and you can't not love them.
Danny Elfman - The guy is a genius.
The Dresden Dolls - Proof that you don't have to be in a typical band to make amazing music and that anything can sound good, as long as you work at it. |

Age: 30 Gender: - Posts: 1821 | April 7th, 2007 at 01:00am Well, for one, I always listen to John Frusciante,(guitar player of Red Hot Chili Peppers), for inspiration for guitar playing. I also like to listen to stuff like My favorite bands, AFI, Bouncing Souls, and My Chem..
And the Pixies... They have simple songs but some of what they do it technical, as far as guitar playing goes. I mean, Here Comes Your Man is extremely easy, but other songs are... a little complicated.
And then there are a lot of blues musicians I listen to for guitar inspiration.
And the Steve Miller Band
The guitar player is pretty sick! And he's got a pretty axe... haha |

Age: 34 Gender: Female Posts: 71 | April 7th, 2007 at 01:28am Well, I'm a bass player, so if I don't put Mikey on the list I'd be lying. He's got some mad skill. But I haven't really been playing long enough to have a whole lot of inspirations as far as that goes.
As for everything else, I would be here for days listing off all the people that inspire and motivater me... |

Age: 33 Gender: Female Posts: 23346 | April 7th, 2007 at 03:28pm Derek Bloom's the reason I started playing drums.
I just loved the drumming in Note to self, so yeah.
And Bob Dylan & Conor Oberst are the reason I'm trying to learn guitar and harmonica.
Because I take in everything they have to say, and I couldn't express myself as good as they do by just playing drums. |
