Marilyn Manson:
I need help in math. what is scientific notation?
It's more commonley known as standard form.
It's where you shorten something to the power of 10 to make it more ...writable.
Like, 3700000 in scientific notation is 3.7 x 10^6 :]
It just makes it much easier to write/read/mark etc.
It's commonly used for like idk the weight of the earth and massive numbers like that :]

As true virtues.said, scientific notation is used to represent an easier-to-read form of large numbers. More specifically, it is a number that ranges from 1 to 9.9999...ect. multiplied by a certain power of 10. You couldn't have 10.3 x 10^22, for example, because 10.3 is not in the single-digits place. Nor can you have .77 x 10^13 either, because it's less than one. One tip: instead of thinking to multiply something by 10 to the power of whatever, move the decimal. If you had 3.455 x 10^4, you move the decimal of the number four places to the right and get 34550. The same goes for negative powers. If you have 3.455^ -4, you would move it four places to the left, and it would be .0003455.
Everything true virtues. said was absolutely true, but just in case you wanted a more in-depth description...
I don't know if this helped any more than what she said, but it's just a little more info. *shrugs*

Google has a lot of essays and stuff about it. These seem to be the best from what I found;
Essay
Wikipedia

I personally don't know what it is. So I'm not sure if these are correct but they seem to be since they all agree with each other.

Hope that helped :]

^ Functions are basically like equations, but usually not as straight forward.
Although, they are pretty easy once you get them :]
What is it you don't get about them, and I'll try and explain?

AS further maths mechanics:

1. A tug, of mass 9000kg, is pulling a boat, of mass 5000kg, by means of a light inextensible horizontal rope along a straight canal. The resistive forces opposing the motions of the tug and the boat are 1500N and 800N respectivley.
a) Calculate, in N, the tension in the rope when the tug is accelerating at 0.5m/s[o]2[/o].
b) How did you model the tug and boat to answer part (a)?
c) The tow rope is described as "inextensible". To what extent is this possible in real life? Explain your answer.

Can someone please help me with part (a), and the explanation to why it's not possible in part (c)?

Never mind, worked it out :]

I'm going to ask this question in another thread as well, but I thought I might as well try here, too.

I'm writing a persuasive paper about eating disorders but I'm having a bit of trouble getting it started with the introduction.
Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? :/
Any help is appreciated<3

Define eating disorders and name a few.

Say what your paper is going to be on subtly- ie bring up the subject without directly saying, 'this paper is going to be about...' So start maybe giving a statistic to aid you in doing this to show you're not alone in your view, this already gives you marks.

End your introduction with a rhetorical question that you can help lead from into the rest of the paper.

You could also try writing the body of the paper first and then going back to write the introduction. The intro is the hardest imo. Other than that I'd say Lights of Paris's advice is really good.

I'm writing an English argumentative essay about stereotyping.
Because it's argumentative, I had to look at both sides but I only have "Against stereotyping" so far.
Any fors?

Plane Crash Dreams:
Anymore "For stereotyping?"
because people like everything catagorised?
or maybe because people feel more secure having a stereotype and having that protection, knowing they're lumped in with a crowd?
idk if that helps, haha x)
