I, too, meant animals. Which humans are as well. And I include plants, minerals, and molecular structures.

I don't need to have hope to live a full life. Hope, anyway, that there's some greater meaning. It doesn't bum me out that I came to be because cells and reactions brought me here. it inspires me. It inspires me that when I am gone I will be returning from whence I came - cells and reactions making up something new someday. And it's not because something is meant to happen. It's just because, whoops, these atoms touched these other atoms by chance.

We have also evolved to the point of discovering things about our world, and things we can't see, with advanced scientific processes; should that not, then, rule us as well?

Also, I am not sure what you mean by your last sentence. Are you saying that it is to our evolutionary advantage that we should have a feeling toward a higher power? So far, not so good. 1. Crusades 2. Dark Ages 3. Prayer for healing. Etc etc. I'd hate to see religion get credit for the scientific leaps mankind has made independently and, even sometimes, in spite of, religion and its oppression of knowledge.

All right, I'll concede on the people part of your statement, but not the religion part. But that only covered a minuscule part of my response.

So like a sequence of chemical accidents? I think that's what you meant, and I totally agree.

Other animals are born simply to reproduce. Their main goal in life is to mate and produce offspring so their genes are inherited. It could be said that we are simply vehicles to genes. I wonder what makes humans think we are any special, like you said before. How are we any different to animals around us? Why should we be considered biologically special?
I think that a lot of people (and by a lot, I do not mean all) can't accept that we don't have a higher purpose other than reproduction, and subseqeuntly turn to religion and creationism to explain a special purpose in our existance.

Why should humans be any different to the drives of reproduction in animals?

(did I go a little bit off topic? :/)

It kind of overlaps with the way people look at the meaning of life. I, as a person who believes in science over religion, see all organisms as things that want to reproduce and produce offspring before we die.

I believe the truth lies in a combination of both .
You see, saying that EVERYTHING came out of NOTHING .
Because nothing is a stable measurement .
Nothing evolves to nothing .
Nothing cannot turn out to be something .
It's just irrational .
Therefore, I do believe in the scientific interpretation,
but whatever happened to start it all, whether you call this a Big Bang or whatever,
something must have caused it .
Last time I said this to a pal of mine he said that the universe was created by energy .
Exactly, that's what God is, a spirit, therefore: energy . Nothing more, nothing less .
So, my point is, God created evolution .
& people created a little fairy tale titled: Genesis .
Which had a sequel: Adam & Eve .
Or, as my religion teacher who firmly believes in Evolution told me:
'People weren't able to understand the whole evolution theory, therefore God made them believe he created the world in seven days .'
Logically, that's impossible to happen . But who said that God does logical things ? Even the thought of God on His own existing is beyond any rational way of thinking .
&, no I am not saying, by any means, that believing in God is irrational, since I am an Orthodox myself, I am just saying that realizing and interpreting the existance of God as a whole is something that's quite impossible for the human mind, since we' have been taught to think rationally .

God is not energy. The presence of energy can be proven and measured without a doubt. God cannot.

God exists, as far as we can absolutely PROVE, within the minds of humans and that is all.

I stated my opinion .
Which was that God is a spirit, therefore energy .
Just not in the scientific way .
I am sorry if I don't make my points clear, it's just that when it comes to things like this,
I think Greek & that results in me not making my point clear .
Again, I apologise .

"God is energy" and "God is not energy" are not opinions. They are facts. One of them is wrong, and one is right. You cannot change the definition of something and then just say "it's your opinion." I have this problem with untold numbers of Christians in debates. It doesn't work that way; you can't change language.

No, she was stating an opinion. She believes spirits are engergy, which includes God. So therefore, to her, God is energy. You may not think that He is, but she does. It's an opinion.

I think Steff means the scientific definition of energy.

Perhaps you do not understand language - there IS no definition of energy that fits what she is talking of, besides "spiritual" energy, which is only referring to the physical energy believed to be given off by spirits - this energy refers to heat spots, movement of objects kinetically, etc. - THAT IS the scientific definition; therefore, the definition of energy you're all on about is made up. Also, so far I have yet to actually see any proof of God doing such things that is more solid than Ghost Hunters on TV.

Really, I am doing nothing more than refuting a belief in ghosts or not. I completely understand what is being discussed, and I am telling you that it makes little to no sense - the only reason you may think it does is because the "reasoning" has been used so often, incorrectly.

I'll just leave this here.

Well Nicole did say she "thinks in Greek" so therefore perhaps she doesnt understand the definition you are referring to. Perhaps if she expressed herself in Greek she might find it easier to explain what she meant. :-/

It is possible that "God" is energy. There are gaps in our current theories of the universe, and one way that those gaps can be filled is if scientists find evidence of the Higgs Boson (also known as the "God particle"; they're trying to do this with the Large Hadron Collider

I'm pretty sure it doesn't work like that. But! I get the feeling you lot will just think what you like, so carry on. Y'know, just like Young Earth Creationists, carry on thinking what you like.
