ok,this prolly sounds like a stupid question but when you get lip piercings do they use a gun or a needle or what? or dus it just depend on were you go?

Shocked Shocked

In my opinion, the piercing gun should be illegalized. It's NEVER EVER a good idea to get pierced with a piercing gun. Not even in the ears.

I have never heard of someone getting pierced in the lip with a piercing gun. Piercing guns are never used for anything other than the ears and nose.

What's wrong with using a piercing gun?

Let me quote the above article.

"Piercing guns are usually made with plastic and cannot be sterilized in an autoclave. Sure, they wipe it with alcohol or antiseptic in between uses, but how sterile is that? It is not unreasonable to guess that in a 2-week training course, these mall piercists are not being taught about infection control and blood-borne pathogens. A quick wipe with a sterile pad is not effective in removing disease-carrying blood. "

"Sterility is just one of the possible problems with gun piercing. Tissue trauma is another. The gun forces a blunt stud through the skin, causing it to literally rip in order to make room for the jewelry. Then, it pinches the back of the jewelry in place snugly against the skin, allowing no way for the new wound to breathe and heal properly. The customer is then told to turn the jewelry a couple times a day, which only further pushes growing bacteria into the wound, causing infection. "

Here are a few more websites that tell you why piercing guns are BAD.

This one has a flash picture that shows how the gun works.

argh!

I reallllllly hate needles, so I only get piercings if they are done with a gun.
I got one of mine done with a needle and it was the most painful thing I have ever experienced.

Ahaha.
Ummm.
That would definitely explain the problems I've had with my cartilage piercing over the 9 months since I had it done.
Lol.
Confused
The lobes were gunned too, all 4, and I had no problems with them.
I feel bad for my ear now x_o Poor ear.

Shocked I never thought of it like that. I guess I just always trusted someone like that to know what they're doing.
But I think what I did was pretty stupid too - I let my friend pierce my ears a couple of time with a needle.

And if I could ask a question...is it a good idea to get the barbell thing in your cartilige (or whatever), or would it be prone to infections?

Hmmmm by barbell do you mean

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a47/stjimmysgurl/piercing88

That is called an industiral peircing, I have one. and no it is not prone to infection any more than anyother peircing. just carfully follow the instructions that your peircer give you.

Okay, well I can't get the picture to work, but what I mean is when it goes through two holes in your cartilage.
I just know people that got thier cartilage (am I spelling that right?) pierced, and they got really infected.

Yup, that's the one.

I know they all come with a risk, I just thought anything that went through any cartilage was worse.
