The Rumor:
If the flesh above the bar (y'know, where you can run your finger over your skin and feel the bar) is getting extremely thin, that's when it's growing out. Eventually, you'll probably be able to see the bar, if you leave it long enough.

Obviously, everyone's body is different so it is possible but don't panic, it's relatively rare for a belly piercing to grow out that quickly.

As far as I know, you can't do anything when they grow out - except take them out before the skin breaks to minimalize the scar. My advice would be that if you are getting worried, just go to a reputable piercer and ask them to check it out. x]

Cigarettes And Suicide:

Okay, well if the bit of skin holding it is getting smaller and smaller, or it's constantly irritated/red/weeping/feeling yuck, then yes, it's growing out. You might be able to stave it off by using more appropriate jewellery if that's what the problem is (too large a gauge, too heavy, has dangly bits etc that catch on clothing and can pull), but if it's growing out of its own accord, best just to take it out and maybe try again when it's healed. Some people just have really brilliant immune systems that reject piercings because their body knows it's not meant to have a piece of metal stabbed through it. If that's the case, then it's pretty unlikely you will make it stick for any length of time.

thank you both.
i have good jewelllery in it
& it's happening just as both of you described
so it must be growing out of it's own accord.
hah, i didn't realise that it would be this upsetting
"/
i'm going back to where i got it done to talk to the piercer there before i take it out for good,
i guess i just want to be 100% sure.

thank you both so much
(:

No problems, don't worry, I have a bajillion piercings and it kills me to have to 'let one go' when it's not working out... I've had a few of mine get really infected/reject and I let them go too far because I just can't stand the thought of giving them up!!
But, going to ask a piercer is a good idea, I can't give you adamant advice unless I get a look at it so just do that, go ask and see if they can give you any ideas on whether it's a lost cause or can be saved. Very Happy Good luck!!

I have: 7 in my ears, smiley, septum, nose, lip, nape.
used to have: monroe, 14mm tunnels, wrist.
going to get: 4 navel, hips, 2 tounge, tounge webbing, clit.

i can't wait until i'm 16, then i can get them without my parents going mental.

most painful was probably my nose tbh.
least was either my nape or lip.

What kind of ring do they put in for a hip piercing?
Someone said it was a bellybutton ring..

its a straight bar that's bent at right angles at both ends.
like this:

or you can get a curved one like this:

i guess they're usually made out of titanium and surgical steel like all other piercing jewllery but alot of surface bars are being made with bioplast nowadays so i don't know.

when i've had my surface piercings done i've had the straight 90 degree one so i'm guessing it's the more common one and the one you're more likely to get.

two big scars? :S
i only have two tiny marks that you can hardly see.
did you only just recently take them out or something?
maybe you got keloids.
that's worrying, i don't want to get them.
maybe just use bio-oil or something yeah?

Yes, they said to me that you would only indeed see 2 tiny marks.
But I took my first surface in my wrist out , like 2 year ago and you can still see where the bar used to be.
So it's actually a big red line on my wrist, connecting the 2 dots.
Same with my second surface underneath my bellybutton , which I took out 1 year ago.

^ Surface piercings have a tendency towards only being short-term. That is, some will last longer than others, as some people's bodies will push them out faster than others, but overall, they're more likely to be something that lasts months, not years.
You *could* look at dermal anchoring, but again, it's a practice that has a relatively high risk of rejection, although from what I hear it's a bit longer-lasting then punching a staple bar under your skin. The benefit with dermal anchoring is that scarring is reduced because it's basically implanted into your skin, not a long bar pushing up against your skin, so the scars are smaller and less noticeable because you get a dot rather than a line, if that makes any sense?

If you go the more common route of surface piercing, I highly, HIGHLY recommend (and this goes for everyone) the use of metal staple bars (the ones that are bent at either end, and look like a staple before it's pressed into paper). The plastic bars, I have found, are much more prone to rejection.

yeah dermal anchoring OR skin divers (new body mod with a couple of advantages over dermal anchoring)

people say that in general a surface piercing will last about 6 months but i've kept mine for longer and i know some people who have had them for years.

and as for scarring?
i've had none for any of my surface bars, i guess i must be lucky.

I gave in. I stretched. I'm sorry, I'm bad. >.> It went in okay actually. And it doesn't hurt, although my 6mm to 7mm is a tad tingly. It's nothing.

I stretched 2 weeks ears, but the last time I stretched I wait about 3 months. Stretching early is like fucking without a condom on... You know it's bad but it feels oh so good. lmfao
