Good: You don't have to deal with the pressures public/private school provides, like bullying.

Bad: Not much socializing.

The good thing about homeschooling is that its only you there. You can focus much better. When you are in a classroom its hard to focus because other people are there.

The bad part about it is that you miss out on things that gets you ready for the real world. You aslo dont get to socialize as much as you do when you go to school.

personally , I don't see any advantages. Home schooled kids will never be able to integrate themselves in our society as adults.

I dont see any problem with it so long as the child has a social life as well.
I know at one point my mom was considering having me home schooled but I have friends outside of school anyway so I probably would've been fine.

I am friends with a boy named Andrew, who is homeschooled.
He is the single nicest person I have ever met, and I went over his house last summer, and we went in his pool and he took me out in the woods to explore and we had a terrific time, it didn't even matter that I was a girl and he was a boy, we were just friends and that was it.
It's just much simpler and I like that better.
Bad things: You don't meet new people often.
Good things: You're nicer and aren't affected by bullying.

yeah but school isn't the only place you learn to socialise. you go down the park, you go out to clubs etc.

Okay, I was home schooled this year only (because of Katrina) and I didn't like it very much. I guess because I was use to being in an actually school. But I gotta say most home school programs DO NOT teach to the same level as state schools. The tutor I’m going to said that most kid that are home schooled can even pass the exam to graduate high school, but as far as making friend and stuff that it’s rather easy there is so much stuff like dance classes, working, family friends, church clubs….just so many ways to make friends. Its the learning part the is bad about it!!!!

I am pressuring my parents into homeschooling.

At my school, I'm not liked much. I've been shoved, hit, and put into lockers. Ive had bad things said to me, and it's led me to do drastic things that I regret.

I personally learn better with no one to distract me. I do better if it's more of a one-on-one thing.

Also, I think that as long as I do make time for friends that I have, and make friends with people through all my activities, I'll be fine.

But that's just me.

I don't agree with it. For example, my best friend, Stephanie was home schooled for 4 years. She had no social life, aside from me and her family. When she finally went back to school, in her freshman year of high school she had missed out on a lot of things. She didn't know how to interact with people. I know that sounds weird, but she didn't feel comfortable with the kids at school. I mean she wasn't teased, but she was used to only having her family and me.

I hope that made sense.

I'm in ninth grade, and I've been homeschooled my whole life. This semester I started going to my local high school for an art class. Next year I'm going full time. I only really got lots of friends this year... I was such a freaking loner before, it was horrible. I'm very different than anyone else. I have friends now who love me, but a lot of the time they just look at me and laugh when I open my mouth, because I'm so weird. And they're the weird kids in my high school!

I'm terrible at socializing. Even my mom thinks she's totally failed me in that. I only think home schooling is maybe good for grade school, because most grade schools are really dumbed down and make kids stupider than they are... but yeah. You definitely have pretty shitty social skills if you are homeschooled.

It's not a bad idea. I'm quite neutral on it, but I think that some parents do it for the wrong reasons - wanting to shelter their children from radical opinions different from their own, or situations they don't think their children can handle.

If it's done like that, if kids can't get out into the world, then it's bad because it will stunt natural mental growth.

If you work at it, then you can graduate high school at 14, 15, or younger. But you MUST work at it! The lessons go at your pace, so you can do as much or as little as you want. It does, however, take a lot of self-discipline on your part.

Home-schooling can very obviously have its benefits, but for most of the people that I know who are/have been home-schooled, they are WAY behind. I'm talking five or six years behind. It's sad: someone I know that should be a freshman (at 14) is learning at a 3rd grade level. Seriously. Her science textbook's definition of wind? Moving air. No explaination of what causes the wind to blow, why it blows, for what reasons, etc. Just moving air. That's not an education; that's just stating the obvious.

It's sad. Just plain sad. The worst part: this person's parents KNOW she's this far behind. And there's nothing wrong with her. She doesn't have a learning disability, or any other disability. She's perfectly capable of being where she should be, and yet she's not. This here is the only bad part of home-schooling.

Home-schooling can be good or bad. It just depends on whether you're willing to do the work and whether your parents are willing to stick a foot up your ass.

home schooling is great and i have to disagree with you.
people that are home schooled are more socialized
then people think. people automatically assume that
if your home schooled, then your some kind of hermit
or something but their not.

I've never heard of kids like that, but wow... yeah, I can see that happening. Both my parents have jobs now, and my mom expects me to homeschool myself or something. I feel pretty stupid, it's why I wanna go to high school full time this fall.

that's why i don't think i'd ever homeschool my child. not only do i want them to stay with the game, if not ahead of it, but i also want them to be successful, intelectually and socially. i might change my mind between now and then, but i don't think i will.

my friend was going to be home schooled this year. but she wasnt but when she told me was might be home schooled I started crying. I think kids in home school dont have that great of social skills. dont get me wrong. I`m friends with this dude in a book club and hes home schooled. but. the edication is different too. and in public school *thats what I go to* you get different people and learn how to deal with different situations. and while this is being talked about. what do u guys think of private schools?

It canbe good or bad.

I knew some kids who were home schooled. One of the girls mother would actually teach her and made sure she did the work. She joined this group for home school kids that would do stuff about once a week. In middle school she started going to private school and did really well.

On the other hand I knew these two other girls who were home schooled too. There mom pulled them out of school all the time because she didn't agree with the work. It wouldn't have been bad but she didn't teach them. They didn't do any of their work. They ended up having to back to school and were really behind.

I go to private school because the public schools around me aren't very good. I don't see anything wrong with it. The only thing is its a lot smaller.
