I think it's about a mass murderer of some kind. And he takes over the identity of his victims.
Well, what do I know.

From the lyrics
"We'll love again.
We'll laugh again
We'll fly again
And we'll dance again

And it's better off this way.."

It's like he wants to change his life but he's already used to this way of living. He thinks that if he kills more people, everything will stop taunting him. I think it's based on a psycho's point of view.

I also agree with the post above.

Literally, isn't it about a killer with some sort of an assistant?

Hm...maybe they're just "metaphors" for other people.

Heee. I'm tired. :\

i agree on it being about a murders point of view.

but i also got the feeling since its last track on the record that is the end of the "Demolition Lovers".
since revenge was inspired by that song.

well as said, revenge is a story of a man who makes a deal with the devil to kill a 1000 evil men to return to his love.

so to me, he is talking about his job and his victims.
and how much he tried to get through the deal he made, so he can get to her.
(and yes as somebody sad above, that he seems to be living through his victims for short period of time).

"And we'll love again and we'll laugh again
We'll cry again and we'll dance again
And it's better off this way
So much better off this way
I can't clean the blood off the sheets in my bed

And never again, and never again
They gave us two shots to the back of the head
And we're all dead now"

but he never gets there, so its better they remain dead(as they got shot in "Demolition Lovers".). so they can be together.

...
dunno how much sense that made, but thats what i personally got from the song.

I think it's all about Gerard's main concept for the album.

A couple are killed on their wedding, the woman goes to Heaven, the male goes to Hell. The devil tells the male that if he brings the Devil the souls of one thousand evil men, the male can be reunited with his love. And so he does it. But, he does not know he's been tricked by the Devil, and seeing as his love is in Heaven, he will just end up going to Hell again, not reuniting them.

And in this song, I think it is talking about him assasinating all of those men and taking over their lives .

(Another night And I'll See You,
Another Night And I'll Be You,
Some Other Way To Continue,
To hide my Face.)

I'm too lazy to explain the rest...

a few years ago when the c.d. first came out, i was driving into the city, playing 'revenge' in the car and my mother heard that song and was disgusted because she thought it was about some guy sleeping around with random girls

mostly because the only line she heard was "a stain that never comes off the sheets"

hahahaha

i'm conviced she has selective hearing

Hmm well I have seen the band on TV before talking about the album Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge and it's concept and I think the man in the song killing the people has somthing to do with that.

Ok what i feel this song is about is the man from "Bullet's" killing all the people he need's to inorder to get his girl freinds soul(Thats what he does for a living as in its his reason for living)

but near the end he gets killed him self and ends up in Hell
but isnt mad or angry because he still gets the be with the women he loves and he doesnt care if hes in hell or not

because there still together

but thats just what i think

It's about the murderer who kills vitims that are lonely, and then takes on their lives to "make them better". He hates it and feels guitly, especially when he meets a woman he likes and has to explain it to her. When he is found out he is shot and all of the people he has posed as are dead along with him. Just an opinion. x

Storywise, I agree with most posts here, but as we all know, gerard allways writes about his feelings. He writes in methaphors, and allways with a story behind, but he still writes about what he feels.

that said, I think that this song is methaphoracly about gerard saying he doesn't want to continue having the life he has, I think he´s saying that it's desgusting and he doesn't like it, but he can't stop it. ("Some other way to continue
To hide my face", "I'm so dirty" )

I don't know when this song was written, but if it was before gerard quit drugs and alcohol, it makes perfect sence... I think in this next lines he's refering to addictions and how they make him feel "A stain that never comes off ", "well I'm laughin', cryin', laughin', well I tried and I tried, but I lied"

just 'cause it wouldn't make sence to me that gerard wrote just for writing

without all the transformations, you can really see what he's talking about.... Very Happy

i agree with most of the stuff said above.
the guy made a deal with the devil and had to kill 1000 evil men to be reunited with his lover. i think that he wasn't able to kill enough people so he's breaking down over it because he knows he'll never see her again.
honestly, i never understood where "the guy gets cheated by the devil" thing came from : /
can anyone explain?

like most people are sayin this is about the demolition lovers but unlike most of you i think he does get reunited with his lover and she was oblivious too what he has done to get her back."hence the name.I never told you what i do for a living"The start of the song he is teeling her what he has done and how he done it.
:Stay out of the light
Or the photographs that I gave you
You can say a prayer if you need to
Or just get in line and I'll grieve you
Can I meet you, alone
Another night and I'll see you
Another night and I'll be you
Some other way to continue
To hide my face

Another knife in my hands
A stain that never comes off the sheets
Clean me off
I'm so dirty babe
The kind of dirty where the water never cleans off the clothes
I keep a book of the names and those"

he then looks too being reunited with his lover
"And we'll love again and we'll laugh again
We'll cry again and we'll dance again
And it's better off this way
So much better off this way"
and when he says
"Well never again and never again
They gave us two shots to the back of the head
And we're all dead now"
hes saying to his lover that there even with the men that killed them. the men killed him & her, and now hes killed them and its better off this way and its over and there safe it will never happen again
