Its impossible to categorize music, because no music is just "PUNK" or just "POP" or just "BLUES"
Great music has a bit of punk, a bit of rock, a bit of whatever. Thats what makes it so different.
I think trying to categorize MCR will be impossible cause there is no absolute written definition of what punk is, or what pop is, or whatever, because not all music is the same.
Hell, I can hear some cabaret in The Black Parade.
So, does this make it a pure punk rock album?

i dont think the emo thing boveres people as much as what its reguarded as now ( music that causes self harming depression bla bla bla)
the original emo died out in the 90s the wanna-be kids who think mcr, the used, good charlotte bla bla bla are about 10 years to late. |

Oh yea...
As it was said; they aren't going to be the next Nirvana or Beatles or whatever...
They're gonna be the first My Chemical Romance.
Anyway... If I had to catagorize MCR I'd call them alternative rock.
It's a very wide genre you can do a lot of things in there.
I also think once a upon a time they were punk pop but I don't think they are now
