Well, I do agree with the person above. I haven't heard anyone else make music that sounds the same as theirs. They really are one of a kind. I guess I would just class them as Alternative.
However, if you are looking for a genre, it really depends which My Chem era you're looking at. Their music has evolved a lot over their albums.
I would class Bullets as Pop Emo/ Punk.
Three Cheers as Punk/ Pop Rock
and The Black Parade as Pop/ Rock - leaning more on the pop side of things.
But in the end, what do genres matter? They will always be My Chemical Romance.

the only pop song on that record is 'Headfirst For Halos', and even that could never make it to radio, due to the lyrics. "Bullets" was post-hardcore.
My Chem has been labeled everything from pop punk, to metalcore, to post-hardcore, to nu-punk, to punk revival. They're an alternative band. That's the best way of putting it. |

Age: 36 Gender: Female Posts: 639 | June 5th, 2007 at 04:02pm My Chem are incredibly hard to put into a genre because they don't sound like anything else I've heard. I think they are a rock band with a punk edge. I don't think they are ''emo'', I usually get into an argument with anyone who says that lol. |

Age: 32 Gender: Female Posts: 1136 | October 28th, 2008 at 10:54am i really don't know their genre, to be honest...
they are experimenting sounds for each album that they've created...
and that's why it's really hard to classify them into one genre...
and that's one thing that i love aboutt hem,,,they are simply telling everyone, that they can do anything...just because they, love what they do, and they are putting there heart into it...
