I didn't see a thread on this, but I thought it would be a good thing to start.

First of all, the candidates and links to their websites:
Democratic:
Joe Biden: http://www.joebiden.com/home

Hillary Clinton: http://hillaryclinton.com/?splash=1

Chris Dodd: http://chrisdodd.com/home

John Edwards: http://johnedwards.com/

Mike Gravel: http://mikegravel.com/

Dennis Kucinich: http://denniskucinich.com/

Barack Obama: http://www.barackobama.com/

Bill Richardson: http://www.billrichardson.com

Republican:
Sam Brownback: http://www.sambrownback.com

Rudy Giuliani: http://www.rudygiuliani.com

Mike Huckabee: http://www.mikehuckabee.com

Duncan Hunter: http://www.duncanhunter.com

John McCain: http://www.johnmccain.com

Ron Paul: http://www.ronpaul.com

Mitt Romney: http://www.mittromney.com

Tom Tancredo: http://tomtancredo.com

Fred Thompson: http://fredthompson.com/

-----------------------------------------------------

So who do you like? Who do you want to see become president? Who do you think you'll vote for? Who do you think will win?

I'm really excited, because I'm going to be eighteen by voting time. I'm excited to be able to vote in this upcoming election.
Personally, my two favorites are Barack Obama and John Edwards. I like Barack more, though.
I think he is very realistic about what this country should do, and what this country is capable of doing. He understands that it would end up being disastrous if we did a one hundred percent pull-out of Iraq, and instead he is taking the advice of prominant people in the military.
I just think Senator Obama is an extremely intellegint, charasmatic person who would do a wonderful job running the country.

There are two things I don't want to see: the republicans keeping control (which seems unlikely) or Hillary Clinton winning.
First of all, we do not need a Bush, Clinton, Bush, Bush, Clinton government. The United States government should not be a family affair. Secondly, she hasn't really done anything. She complains about a lot of things, and she talks about what a wonderful job her husband did. I cannot see how she would make a good president.
Also, as a woman, I really do not want to dislike our first woman president.

I realize it is early to be starting this, but I think that starting a discussion about it early on while there are still a lot of necessary questions to be answered, and before it gets down to the wire of two candidates. I think it will be a lot more interesting to have the discussion start now.

Now what i'm about to say might offend someone (i know it will actually) however this isn't my opinion. I honestly can't see a woman or anyone who isn't white in office anytime in the near future.

Why you might ask? Honestly we just aren't ready for it. And when i say "we" i mean the US in general. People are still too racist or sexist to put those aside and see the candidates for who they really are. Or what they really stand for. It pains me to say it because i think it would be nice. To live in a country where sex or race had nothing to do with being elected. But sadly it does or atleast for right now.

I'm hoping this will change i really am. I'm hoping in my generation i see someone in office who isn't another old white male. Whether it be someone of another sex or race or religion even would be refreshing. This country needs change and it needs it now.

On a lighter side anyone up for some V for Vendetta revolution action? ^_^
No that would be bad. This country has seen enough bloodshed on its own soil against its own people. And what a waste of tea!
Thanks for your time(3rd time i typed that. i kept typing Yhanks. wow)

I think based on the platforms and what I've read so far, Barack Obama has my vote as well. While I do think that Hillary's Universal Health Care ideas would benefit all, I don't know if she's strong enough on the other issues.

Thank you, however, for the links for all of the candidates. We don't have television so I won't be able to see any of the debates or anything, so I can keep updated based on those. That was quite helpful.

See, (and everyone needs to keep in mind, I am a female, and I am saying this as such) I don't think anyone should be offended by that. I can see a president who is not white or a female, but unless the Secret Service trippled (at the very least) I think it would end terribly. There are enough bigots in this country that it seems very likely our first female or black president would be shot.

I've only seen two of the debates so far- there was a democratic debate last night, and I watched the YouTube democratic debate.
You might be able to find at least parts of the debates on YouTube if you want to see them. Smile

I'm glad you agree with me. But also i'm not haha. I hate to be right about something like that. This country needs a new kind of president. It shouldn't be run by the same kind of person over and over again. Thanks for the support.

Exactly, and something similar was brought up in the debate last night.
Look at the last name's of our last three presidents... we had George Bush, then Bill Clinton, and the past two terms have been George W. Bush.
We don't need another Clinton in office. Keeping it all in the family is no better to me than having all rich, white, Christians.
That's one of the reasons I like Obama and Edwards, they both came from normal lives and seem to understand the average American.

I do believe that the country overrall is ready for a female president or a black president. Unfortunately, though, the majority of the kind of people who are not ready for a president of a different gender or race tend to be fairly extreme bigots and the kind of people that would try to kill. That isn't to say everyone who doesn't feel ready, but it seems that the majority of people who aren't are like that... unfortunately.

It's kind of hard for me to fathom that kind of thing, because I live in a fairly liberal state... we have civil unions and there's a lot of talk of gay marriage, we are an extremely blue state, the death penalty is outlawed, there are quite a few vegetarian/vegan restuarants, etc..., so I live in a pretty open place, but it's also not very diverse (I live in a really small town in a really small state) so it's a hard thing for me to be able to understand just how extreme a lot of racists and sexists are.

I'm fairly certain that most of my debate-watching will come from YouTube, or I'll read transcripts online and keep up through newspapers and news sites. I'm glad that people post those kinds of things, to make them more accessible. (We just decided one day that we didn't need television anymore, so we cancelled cable and unhooked the antenna. Now we get everything online. You wouldn't believe the difference it makes.)

Anyway, back to the topic. I would like to think that we, as a society, have come far enough along that gender or race wouldn't matter. Unfortunately, I know that there are those who don't share those views and I would hope that, were Obama to be elected, that he would have more security. It's sad, but he shouldn't have to get hurt or killed just because of the color of his skin.

I know that I will vote Democrat, no doubt about that. This election will be a pivotal one which will change the world stage. I only hope that more people do vote. It's a travesty that so few people do, and it's one of the most important rights that we have.

There is only one case where I can see myself voting Republican, and that is if Hillary Clinton is the other option.
I think the only thing worse for our country than that would be four more years of George W. Bush.

I also try not to say "I'll vote for this person because of their party," I think there are plenty of instances where a Republican did well as a president, plenty of instances where a Republican did poorly, plenty of instances where a Democrat did well, and plenty of instances where a Democrat did poorly.

i'm not American, but i was surprised to know the US is having an election too! in australia, we're having a federal election & probably will get John Howard off the seat. So maybe Howard & Bush (aka best buddies lol) can step down and we'll have some change.

=.= hillary clinton running for president? that's just not funny if she gets anywhere near voted.

John Edwards has my vote, but this guy is too honest and too direct for politics. He'll never get in. He has the best handle on the major issues. He really understands what's going on in Iraq. His plan for mandatory universal health care is the best one I've seen and I think it really would work. His plans on asking Americans to start living within our own means is totally in line with my view on mass consumerism and global warming. That and the fact that he wasn't raised a spoiled, rich boy is something I can identify with. He worked to get where he was and he understands the real base of Americans, not just the upper crust society. He also speaks coherently, clearly and directly. He doesn't dodge questions when he gets grilled. He doesn't flip flop on his beliefs just to appease a different demographic. He doesn't sling mud and he doesn't bad mouth other candidates. I respect that.

This is going to be my first year voting, and I am actually dreading it. I know that I should vote, but none of the candidates have you know, really gotten me into it. I have no idea who is going to win, but as long as it isn't Hilary, then I'm fine. I firmly believe that Hilary will just make everything worse. But that's just a personal opinion. I have NO IDEA who I am going to be voting for. Neutral

This probably won't be the most popular response, but I plan to vote for Hillary. I agree with her stance on all the issues and I feel that's most important.

That being said, I wish Al Gore would run for president.

Personally, after meeting Al and hearing him speak I have a feeling that he will get a lot more accomplished out of office than in it.

^You're probably right. I just find it really interesting that he's currently fourth in the polls for democratic candidates (after Clinton, Obama, and Edwards) and he's not even running.

The only thing I don't like about Al Gore is it's always the same thing.

For me, when I hear someone talking about the same thing again and again, I get kind of sick of it. I do respect him, and if he were to run, he would probably get my vote (depending on who he was running against, obviously)... I'd just like to hear something from him other than the enviornment, you know?

I guess its because thats like his main focus right now, what he is doing for the country. He would be a good president, but because he isnt running, he is trying to focus on a main thing. The environment.

But thats just an assumption.

But just because it'a a main focus doesn't mean he can't talk about anything else.
It just gets irritating to hear someone only talk about one thing.

Also, hind-sight is 20-20, we don't know he would be a good president.
