The producer has some influence over the way a record is mixed or a song gets arranged, but they're not going to force the band to "write like these people now, and play like them too" |

That's not what Ray said; he said that they were able to take more time rehearsing so that they could hear how the songs were really going to sound once they did go in and record them. That is what they were doing sans Gerard at the moment. They're not going in to record for another couple of weeks. |

A baby requires a lot of attention and care, and is more important than a CD at the moment. |

She is definitely way more important than an album for us right now. Don't get me wrong - I'm as excited for the album as anyone else - but a baby isn't something you can put to the side and say "Oh, we'll just deal with you later."
But, to be honest, I'm probably about as ecstatic about the baby as I am for the record, so I don't mind at all if they hold things off a little due to the baby.  |

Plus, this intense rehearsal before recording will be a good thing. All the instruments will sound tip-friggin'-top and everything'll be all polished, and...!!!
