Teenagers can be depressed. It just depends on what they're like.
If they're extremely sensitive, things affect them more harshly, so depression could be a result. Just because you're older doesn't mean that you have more feelings.
Some teens do fake it, so when some actually mean it, they get bashed and even more depressed. So yes, I do believe in it.

1.yes teenage depression is all too real struggle with it and it sucks when adults just chalk it up to teenage melodrama.

2.It definatley helps to have at least one supportive friend or family member my mom has been an angel helping me with my depression

3.I personally believe that it can be healed without therapists or drugs but some people need those things and should get them.

4.Talking to someone about your problems is really helpful because it reminds you that your not allalone and you don't have to deal with your problems by yourself.

I agree, but its different for everyone

Tbh,alot of the stuff on here makes it sound like its really easy to get through, but its not.
Teenage depression does exist, but i think theres a difference between it and clinical depression.

I recently had to fill out a form to get back into councilling, medication and try and make things better for myself.
And im actually petrified because i know whats happening to me.

However i feel like im going to be more prepared and will handle everything more easily because of it,i feel sorry for the people that dont.

shrinking-violet i totally agree with you. Im going through depression and i had a really supportive friend but we had a huge fall out and now she pretty much just hates me now. my parents think that teenage depression is a total hack and what I am going through just a normal life. the only thing that has been a constant helper is self abuse and cutting. I know most people think its a totally stupid idea but when your physically hurt more than you emotional or mentally hurt then it helps.

but physically hurting yourself is also addictive :/

its nice to have people around you to talk to you.
In my experience however, they either dont want to hear it or thier too scared to be involved.

1.I would say yes, it does exist. Although, at times, it is down to melodrama. It's hard to distinguish between the two, but there are definite differences; I think teenage depression tends to be overreaction to little things, which in itself, manifests depression.

2. Family is almost definitely beneficial when you have depression. Your friends can only do so much, whereas your family can give you constant support. There is no support like family support, although it is good to have one or two friends to help you.

3. If you're like me, and it's just chemical imbalance rather than emotional distress(that part's just a guess since I don't see any reason for me to be depressed, although my GP says I am), then no, it probablly can't be helped without medication. In all cases, I would say that it is best to seek professional help, as I said before, the people around you can only do so much to help you. However, there are still risks with professional help if they're not properly trained and such.

4. How? I genuinely do not see how it is possible to override depression without medical help (hence why I still struggle). After all, it is an illness and needs to be treated. Although your family and friends can help you manage it and contain it, it will never fully retreat. In my opinion, based on experience, it will always linger at the back of your mind.

I agree with the person above, but id personally rather do it all without medical help.
I've managed to overcome depression once, and the thought that you've done it all on your own makes you feel so much stronger.
I cant remember feeling so much relief and happyness from any other experience.

I also have the chemical imbalance, but i also have the emotional distress and other issues.
I don't think it's something ill ever be able to get rid of,but id much rather do it without medication.

For some reason recieving professional help makes me feel weak, like a failure,it makes me feel worse knowing that i've been diagnosed and there is actually something wrong with me.

It's alot easier to keep busy and fight it to the back of your mind.

I've been depressed since the age of ten,so i really do believe teenage depression exists. But i think theres the sort where its a stage in life and you get over it,and unfortunately the type that sticks with you for the rest of your days.

Did you have a professional tell you about your chemical imbalance? there's not really a way to tell without one.

Yeah,at first i was recieving medical help,i was diagnosed, they put me on medication.
Within three months i stopped my medication,i believe its more physcological,i felt no difference,i believed they only gave you it to make you think your getting better.

I havnt been back since,i refuse to.
I feel worse than before, but id rather not recieve the 'help'

You mean a placebo? Is that even legal to give you as certified medicine or are you sure you just weren't greatly effected?

No it was prozac and some other medicines,i felt absoloutely no diference.

Edit; And i know it can take years to find the right medication that suits you,but im not willing to go down that route again.

I really do believe its physcological.

If your given medication, you automatically think its going to make you feel better.
What if thats the case,it doesnt actually work,it's just a ploy.
