well the way i was taught was to draw strum power from the wrist moving it up and down the strings in patterns.

like

downtrokes then up strokes.

then you learn to variate.

but some people like to draw the strumming from their shoulders [example: billie joe armstrong & Frank iero]

so yeh just work on the wrist movement by strumming down and up and so forth

then when you get more used to it youll gain more control?

anyone like to variate on this ?

I think I get it ... another question would it be best to use a pic or not? whilst learning to strum that is

um i prefer to use the pick cos it gives a clean sound
and it dosnt wear your nails into nothing.

I don't like using a pick, but I think you should use a pick because it wont wear out your nails.
but you should practice without a pick at times too.

Can someone post or send me a pic of how to correctly hold a guitar pick?
I want to make sure I do it right...

I would pratice with a pick at first.

If you start without a pick, you're going to end up with messed up nails. So you should start with a pick. Smile

i still think its alot better if you use a pick to strum
specially since eventually youll wear them out pretty bad.
besides
if you dont use the pick youll feel alienated towards use of the pick
i mean it would feel funky.

Like, I know how to read tabs, but I don't know what any of those frets or anything mean, you know? Like what the notes are. Embarassed
Can someone show me a picture that shows what strings are what, and what the different types of notes are?
I know it's out there, there's like a poster of it, but I can't find a digital image of that.
Embarassed
I feel really dumb for asking all this, but, really, thanks.
