^Oh, you're supposed to strum the three notes in the chord, but you mute the midle one by not putting your finger all the way down, so only two notes ring out. |

My fingers are peeling. Is this normal for the fingers to harden up?

Age: 32 Gender: Female Posts: 279 | July 25th, 2007 at 06:57am I've finally got a thin layer that sort of resembles a callous. I've had the skin peel off completely and now my fingertips are really shiny and there's less of a fingerprint on the very tips but I'm getting there. It's still really too thin I think. I've only been using a classical for the last month (getting my nice acoustic from Aus later), so the strings aren't as harsh on my fingers either. |

Buuuuttt soaking your finger tips in vinegar helps.
Sounds stupid but it does.
Just don't put them in if you have cuts.
It stings.
But yeah, Vinegar works. |

Can anyone tell me how to fix it? |

Age: 32 Gender: Female Posts: 279 | August 6th, 2007 at 06:25am That may be because you're pressing too hard on the strings with your palm. You need to just hover your palm over so that the strings can still vibrate and make sound, just dullen it instead of let it resonate. Press REALLY softly with your palm. If changing that doesn't work I don't know.
What are you playing? (acoustic/electric?) |

Age: 32 Gender: Female Posts: 279 | August 6th, 2007 at 06:40am I need to buy an electric (for my band.. we're pretty pathetic at the moment).
I was wondering if there were any recommendations for a particular brand or specific guitar. I'm still a beginner, I've been playing acoustic for about seven months now. I just want to know from you guys what will survive the best in a band. Any amp suggestions as well would be welcome.
We just got a free drumkit and a free bass + amp because our bassists brother (who is also a bassist) quit his band, and he owned the durmkit and bass. Our drummer had her first drumming lesson last week. We're really quite pathetic at the moment, but we have enthusiasm and drive. But no guitar.
So please just put down ANYTHING you have. If you've heard about anything nice just post please.
(Keep in mind I have a budget, about a thousand is all I can scratch up at the moment.) |

where is your palm sitting?
the best place is to put the meaty bit of your palm across the end of the strings where they saddle into the bridge!
ill take a foto of me doing it ? |

I can tell I've been playing a lot b/c my fingers are sore and the skin is peeling.
Approximately how long does it take for your fingers to be developed enough not to slip on the strings? |
