there is absolutely no problem with porn, rapists still rape, and probably rape more of they dont watch porn because it is an outlet for them instead of raping people. If it is between concential adults, then there is no problem, there are tests done for STD's and in most porn they use condoms, and women have chosen to be in it, so there is no unfair objectification going on thre.

Porn is pretty far away from reality and it encourages guys to expect us women to behave in ways that we would never normally behave (and also to expect us all to have gigantic breasts LOL) but there is nothing wrong with it as long as it sticks to adult humans. Women should just go ahead and watch / read it along with their men sometimes; that turns them on. Don't get all upset by it (i.e. "He has me, why does he need that?) Men like porn, that's just the way it is. They're voyeurs. Try performing for him sometimes; does wonders.

I see it as just an arousal method honestly, I mean what else do they get out of it. I haven't met a guy that said he'll only go for women who look like porn stars, it doesn't give them higher expectations and porn can be tasteful. Burlesque is what you'd call "classy porn" in a way, Dita Von Teese.... they're not slutty or anything. Its what works for you honestly.

I think it's interesting how many people think only men are the voyeurs, and only men are the ones that like and enjoy porn.

I personally think humans in general are voyeuristic - I don't think it is restricted to one gender or sex. I think if a lot more porn was made for women by women, then a lot more women would enjoy porn.

And some people say, well women have those sex novels. Urgh. I personally cannot think of anything more BORING than reading a sex novel, when I could watch people have sex in visual porn. Yeah, it may not be reality - but neither are the sex scenes in those books so many women apparently read.

I see where you're coming from, but I also think it depends on the maturity level of the guy, I mean, if it's a teenage boy who's never had sex, and watching porn is his first foray into his sexuality, then I think they are setting themselves up for a huge disappointment when they do finally have sex with a woman. But a man who is able to enjoy porn for what it is (as stated before, a voyeuristic device or a turn-on before sex with their partner) is in no hurry to have his partner behave like that. Hubs and I, we often laugh at how outrageously silly it can be.

But there have been instances of "porn addiction" where the person wants sex to be like what they see in videos or the internet, and that can cause problems in a relationship. I think those are few and far between, but it does happen.

Okay I NEVER said that ONLY men are voyeurs and capable of enjoying porn; I was simply responding to the attitude some women have about their men watching it "behind their backs."

I don't mean to be patronising or offend people here, but I have wondered if some people's here attitude will be different in a few years time?

A few years ago, like mid teens, I would have been the same, going "ew porn," but now it doesn't bother me. I was embarrassed by it then, but not now.

This just in: Queensland has more sex shops than supermarkets.

So obviously, porn is popular with a lot more people than you might like to think.

Ha, I am amused by that. But not really that surprised.

When I was at Sexpo this year (in Adelaide, where I live) I was reading this leaflet someone handed to me. It was actually quite interesting. It pretty much stated that pornography in Australia was one of the most widely used arousal methods for couples, or something to that effect. It rattled off some statistic which I can't remember now (I'll try and find the leaflet, if I still have it...), but I do remember it was quite surprising to me at the time.

Although I still find it ridiculous that XXX porn DVDs are still pretty much illegal in Australia Rolling Eyes
'Normal' R rated ones aren't, but the more hardcore DVDs are...

^ Woah, thats weird. Esspecially when considering how the first video I ever watched (accidentaly) was an R rated australian flick. They sure do show alot more then anything over here across the Pacific...

How can they enforce such a rule? So there are no actual adult video stores, but theres still the internet which has more than enough material and is even more accesable. I mean whats the point?

Oh, there are sex shops over here that I've been in that do sell the more hardcore xxx stuff, but apparently it's illegal Neutral

But I don't think the law is *too* heavily scrutinised.

I just think it's weird. Neutral

But yeah, because of the internet anyone can access hardcore xxx porn. So I see it as pointless too.

^ I think the law assumes that R rated stuff is more along the lines of 'vanilla' sex - ie male-on-female, girl-on-girl, threesomes, anal, whatever. 'Normal' sex. But I suppose a lot of porn that would be classified XXX (if it's classified at all) is the more violent stuff, featuring things like bondage, torture, and perhaps bestiality. My guess is, it would be illegal because the government is okay with people having vanilla sex, but wouldn't want to encourage people to watch more violent porn as it might encourage them. I mean, if you're watching THAT kind of porn, then you might have sadistic tendencies that could be stimulated to the point of you playing them out for real.

Maybe. That's just my spin on it.

^Well, I can only speak from personal experience when I say I watch "that type of porn" (i.e the more hardcore stuff) - but I know the difference between role play with a partner and actually going out and abusing someone physically because I'm a sick freak. But I can see why people assume people who watch more violent porn are like that. Some people are scared by that kind of stuff. -shrug-

I personally don't think the government has any place in our bedrooms.

Yes, I personally think it's wrong, mostly because I believe people should save sex for marriage, but that's my opinion.

I think porn hinders men (and women) more than helps them. Ok, they can get sexual satisfaction, but it's false. Most of the women and men are not portrayed as normal human beings. It takes away from the real pleasure of natural sex.

In my psychology class, we were studying the mind of Ted Bundy (the serial killer who mostly likely killed more than 30 young girls). In some of his interviews, he said -
"There's no question about it. The FBI's own study on serial homicide shows that the most common interest among serial killers is pornography. Well-meaning, decent people will condemn the behavior of a Ted Bundy, while they're walking past a magazine rack full of the very kinds of things that send young kids down the road to be Ted Bundys. But I'll tell you, there lots of other kids playing in streets around this country today who are going to be dead tomorrow, and the next day, and the next day and month, because other young people are reading the kinds of things and seeing the kinds of things that are available in the media today." (he referred to himself as a different person)

"Listen, I'm no social scientist, and I haven't done a survey. I don't pretend that I know what John Q. Citizen thinks about this. But I've lived in prison for a long time now. And I've met a lot of men who were motivated to commit violence just like me. And without exception, without question, every one of them was deeply involved in pornography."

I know he was deeply invoved in violent pornography, but he started by viewing "innocent" pornography and his defenses became weaker and weaker. I choose the stay far away from anything that could lead into something worse, and anything damaging to my mind and spiritual health.

^I think that the argument that violent porn (or any porn for that matter) can mould the mind of a serial killer or mass murderer is moot and silly. I say this because I wholeheartedly believe that serial killers have something wrong with them way before they start looking at things like porn; I don't believe that porn itself is completely responsible for creating the mind of a serial killer.

I'm not denying there are some crazy nutters out there who watch violent porn and do harm others. But I think there are a lot more people who don't abuse than there are those that do.

And if porn breeds serial killers, then technically there should be a lot more murderers in our society. A lot more File

^ I'm so with Mindfuck on this one. You may as well say that Marilyn Manson's music was the one, true, sole cause of those kids shooting their classmates and teachers at Columbine. You may as well say that you will never drive or be a passenger in a car because, even though a lot of people drive their cars every day and have never been in an accident, every person killed on our roads was either in a car, or hit by a car. You may as well say that all junk food should be banned because some people who eat it end up having heart attacks. You may as well...
See my point? Like Mindfuck said, the people who commit violent crimes, and just happen to have watched porn at some point in their lives before they committed violent crimes, are not 'normal' people. 'Normal' people can watch relatively tame porn regularly all their lives and never once even THINK about raping or killing somebody. The people who watch porn to satisfy something other than their normal sexual urges, and go on to commit violence against others, are people who already have severe mental problems. The porn neither helps nor hinders those people. Even if it didn't exist, they would still hurt other people. I think, if anything, indulging their fantasies in pornography can in fact delay or even prevent somebody being hurt by them - they can watch more and more violent porn for years before they are desensitised enough to actually enact their fantasies in real life. But if they can watch porn, they can use that for a period of time.

As for the start of your post...

I think porn hinders men (and women) more than helps them. Ok, they can get sexual satisfaction, but it's false. Most of the women and men are not portrayed as normal human beings. It takes away from the real pleasure of natural sex.

Do you also count masturbation in your first statement? Because a lot of people don't use porn before going to bed with their partner. They use it to get a quick load off when they're too tired to stimulate themselves, or whatever. Saving sex for marriage, and watching porn, are pretty much irrelevant. I can watch porn and never, ever have sex with someone. I don't get what you mean by that.
But, basically, you don't like it, you don't have to watch it. Pretty simple, really.

How does porn hinder men and women? It can in fact be a huge help to a relationship. How is it 'false' satisfaction? Trust me, an orgasm is an orgasm is an orgasm. Umm, all the porn I have ever seen portrays participants as normal human beings - stereotypical ideals of human beings, yes, but hey, we're watching it because we want to see some sex, we're not looking for an Oscar-nominated epic. So what if the girl is wearing a short skirt and begging her 'college professor' to pass her on an exam that she thinks she failed? As long as they get naked, that's all I'm interested in. I couldn't care less how it comes about.
Of course the women in those films are constantly moaning and begging for more and attempting to look like they're enjoying every second of it! Nobody would want to watch someone laying there like a cold, dead fish (that's what their wives are for).
I can only assume by the statement about 'taking away from natural pleasure' that you haven't had sex, or haven't watched porn? Excuse me if I'm assuming incorrectly (and bear in mind I'm fully aware that I probably am), but in my own personal experience, sex after watching a bit of porn is actually very beneficial to the event. Sure, I would love my husband, find him attractive and enjoy having sex with him if I never watched porn, but when you've been with the same person for a little while, sex can turn into a five-minute chore you do before bed, like brushing your teeth - not unpleasant, but definitely nothing worth writing home about. At the end of a long day, it's hard to get turned on, hard to get enthusiastic about being intimate with your partner, and a little bit of porn beforehand means you go to bed all revved up and anticipating what's about to follow, instead of resigning yourself to a literal stab in the dark. Maybe others' experiences are different to mine, but the general consensus is that it does in fact aid sex with your partner, makes it more intense or more enjoyable - not because you're thinking about someone else, but because it takes the hard work out of getting warmed up for it.

If porn works for you, go for it. I'm was just stating that while it might be beneficial for you, it could be a hinderance to me and others. The other words I posted were reasons I choose to avoid it. I'm not here to convince you to turn away from porn because it's "evil" or beat you over the head with "facts". I believe porn is harmful to me because of the way my mind works and basically who I am. It's really not a matter of if it's right or not, it's a matter of how if affects you.

whenever ive ever seen anything porn related, like with friends and stuff for a laugh, or come across it on the internet by accident (i dont even have to lie, i genuinely dont like porn) whenever i see the girls in it usually, i always think about how cheap it looks. and i always think that its their job, and when your job is sex 9 to 5, surely it cant be that great, which must mean theyre pretending to enjoy it. especially if its some ugly fucker doing whatever to them, who they clearly wouldnt be attracted to in real life.

and THAT is what bothers me. girls having to pretend theyre ENJOYING getting fucked just to get a paycheck at the end of the day.

i think its cheap and disgusting.

Whoa, wait - how can sexual satisfaction be "false?" I don't understand what you mean by that statement; aren't all forms of sex "natural?" Most people would say that fantasizing enhances their sex lives, not takes away from.

Most of the women and men are not portrayed as normal human beings.
Huh? What are they being portrayed as then, space aliens? They're being portrayed as people engaging in sexual activity - what is abnormal about that to you?

The correlation between men who commit acts of violence (and here we are conveniently forgetting that women both watch porn and commit acts of violence as well) and those who watch porn is nil. That is the same alarmist crap as The Daily Mail claiming that anyone who listens to My Chemical Romance is doomed to slit their wrists because of it. It's a sweeping generalization with no basis in fact (and from a twisted mind, no less.) The reality is that a very hefty chunk of men enjoy porn, so the likelihood of male serial killers as a unit admitting to watching porn is likely to be just as high as that of any other focus group full of males.
