i know that basically everyone on here is against rape.
and i know most people on this earth are disgusted by it, but WHY does it happen.
i go to the amnesty meetings at my school with becci, and we were told, that when they made a survey, the main opinion of men (or something) was that if a woman, was
a) drunk
b) dressed in revealing clothes
c) acting in a flirtacious manner
that she was 'asking to be raped' which i think is disgusting.

a woman has a right to dress how she likes, but if she does, the result is rape? i find this sickening.

anyways, what do you think about the causes and things leading to/ caused by rape.

I think women have nothing to do with rape (unless its all their fault.), its just about always men who are drunk, high, or sick bastards that should be shot. But thats just my thought.

THIS THREAD IS NOT ASKING IF YOU'RE AGAINST RAPE.
We're all against rape. Any "I'm against it" posts will be deleted.
It's asking why you think it happens, and what can be done to prevent it.

Please remember that.

I know women arent the only ones, but I rarely hear about the guy victims. Most people here (where i live) dont even believe it happens because guys are "sex hungry and will take anything they can get.", as the people here out it.

yup, although it would have to be a guy raping another guy.
i think that a lot of people decide to just turn a blind eye against it, and try to ignore it, and blame it on guys, who are as you say "sex hungry"

I think kids in school should be taught about how much rape fucks up peoples lives. It should be pretty harrowing.

Soooooo, back to how rape can be prevented then?
When out drinking, I think women should keep their drinks with them at all times. That way drugs and things can't be slipped into them.
Also when women are out drinking, I don't think they should get so wasted that they can't even stand or walk properly unaided.
People should never walk home alone either and should phone each other to make sure that they get home okay.

But then there's the women who are raped by their partners.
They won't stand up to them because they're too afraid of what might happen to them if they do.
Some won't go to the police because they think they won't be believed; that they are crying wolf.
And to state the obvious, it's also practically impossible to prove without solid evidence.

What do you think women in abusive relationships should do?

I hope I've made some sense ><

One of my best friends is totally opposite of being against rape.
She truthfully wants to get raped.
Like she's dead serious about it.
I've gotten used the fact she wants to get raped.
It kind of doesn't shock me that she wants it.
Her life is a living hell. She's seen everything, I mean everything
bad there is to see in this world. Not only has she seen it, but she's been
through it.
Random fact....anyways.

I'll point something out.
Example of a girl most likely to be raped
This girl in my grade Devin. She's a very sexually active girl, almost to the scale of a slut.
Her myspace has some very revealing pictures of some certain areas.
My point is, all these 12, 13, 16, 20, 29 year-old girls/woman who are
flaunting around strutting their "stuff" to all these over aged desperate men
are asking for rape.
They don't respect there selves one bit. And all those stories on the T.V.
about some 14 year-old girl who was kidnapped and raped because the
"evil internet" caused some random ass guy to
track her down and then force her to talk to him over the internet, then
finally raping her.
But see these people just go on blaming the man for raping her, and the
internet for making it possible for him to contact her. When if the girl
could have just as easily not have talked to the man. She didn't have
to be on the internet. And another thing, what did the girl say to make that
man want her? Did she cyber with him? Most likely. Did she show him a
few pictures of her self, one containing her dressed up as a little hoe and
the other of her vagina and boobs? Probably. Did she tell the man where she lives?
You could bet money on that.
That's asking for rape. Maybe not intentionally, but it is.

There's other times where the man is just a effing psycho, desperate, again psycho.
There are those times where you can't help anything, except to watch out for yourself.

Here, I can say I've contributed somewhat.

Last month I, along with about 10 other students, made a DVD showing all these things that Claire mentions and why they're dangerous, as an out-of-class project at my school. It's being sent around schools in the country soon - UK INOpians may well see it at some point. I think that getting the message out to young people is the way to prevent these things happening. If young girls are clued up about the dangers they might face when going out for a night, then things like rape will be less likely to happen.

Yeah, there was this guy who came to our school to discuss different social issues and he was talking about how a lot of guys feel that just because a girl is dressing revealing she is asking to be raped. I find that appauling. Just because someone is dressed a certain way doesn't mean they have the right to be harrassed...

Okay, this is asking how to prevent it, but it doesn't happen to teenagers and women. My friend was like four, five, or six when she was raped. She was wearing pink leotards and picking frickin' dadniloins! So, heres a good one for ya'll: Along with rape in teens and women, how do we prevent child rape?

Most of the victims of rape at such a young age get raped by family members or friends of family.
