My thoughts exactly.
Except now I've read everyone else's comments, I sort of get the gist that's it's mainly about missionaries, etc.

i think you're right - LOVE this song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! =D

I think when he says
Give me a reason to believe
He means
why I shouldnt die, why I should believe there is a god that will care for me.
Otherwise its just about how he wants to die or struggles with a pill addiction.

well you guys have some different ideas then me. i think hes refering to how hes not going to let death get to him. like he doesnt want to give up that easily.

You'll never make me leave
I wear this on my sleeve
Give me a reason to believe (give me a reason to keep going)

So give me all your poison
And give me all your pills
And give me all your hopeless hearts
And make me ill (keep trying but im staying)
You're running after something
That you'll never kill (you will never get me)
If this is what you want
Then fire at will (hes saying "your going to lose" to death)

idk thats what i think but everyone has their own opinion.
don't aim to please.

Yeah I think it's about the missionaries. I hate when people get all pushy and preachy about religon, too.

In my opinion, I think this song is about their sick of people complaining about their lives and doing stupid things. I mean, think about it.

So give me all your poison
And give me all your pills
And give me all your hopeless hearts
And make me ill
You're running after something
That you'll never kill
If this is what you want
Then fire at will

Look at the chorus! Its about someone trying to hurt themselves!

I think this song does have something to do with religion/clergy.
At first I wasn't sure but this line proved it to me:

Preach all you want but who's gonna save me?
I keep a gun on the book you gave me.
Hallelujah!
Lock and load!

I think its about losing faith("preach all ya want but whose gonna save me"Wink.
and it definately has to do with religion and all those super religious peeps that can't tolerate those who prefer a different lifestyle.

i think the song is about the religion or the leaders of different religion..since they cant teach the person well, he just asked him to give him poison so he could kill his self..

Give me all your poison (pills are like poison)
Give me all your pills (self explanitary)
Give me all your hopless hearts (make me who you want me to be)
Make me ill (changing me is like making me ill)
Your running after something that you'll never kill (its never going to work)
If this is what you want then fire at will (he doesn't want to do it, he feels he is doing this against his will)

I think this is about being given loads of pills to get over drugs, depression etc. and how he feels there never going to work.

For me, this song is a big FUCK OFF to authority. Its like, no matter how much they torment me and lie to me at school and church, and not matter how awful the kids are to me, I will survive. Its sad that it has to be that way, but if this is what they want, then come and get me. Fire at will.

i think this song is about using the abuse and hate you have got from people to motivate you.
'you'll never make me leave, i wear this on my sleave, you oughta follow something, give a better cause to lead, just give me what i need, give me a reason to believe'

i think that bit is saying something like im not gonig to be pushed aside and bullied, im going to use all you're insults to build myself up and motivate myself to become something better than you

I also think this song can really apply to anyone whose trying to get you down. I mean it kind of goes along with the movie V for Vendetta, in the way that no matter how much someone can try to get you down, you are smarter, and will ultimately smash them.

I was listening to it in the car today, on the way home from guitar class.
I don't think it's really about religion so much as using religion as a metaphor.

"Give me a reason to believe" could be sounding to question a certain god, but really saying 'Give me a reason to believe you when you say everything's gonna be all right'.

I thought it was about Gerard trying to convince his friend not to commit suicide, until I read this...

Cindered_Rose:
My Chemical Romance played the main stage at the 2006 Reading and Leeds Festival—this was the largest show they have ever played in the UK. According to issue 221 of Alternative Press, they followed Slayer and were not received warmly by the crowd at Reading, as the band was subjected to heavy bottling. Large sections of the audience threw bacon, tangerines, golf balls, and bottles filled with urine at the group as they played. This reportedly upset Gerard, who then introduced the song "Thank You For the Venom" saying:

"This song is called Thanks for All the Bottles, Thanks for All the *iss, Thanks for All the Golf Balls, Thanks for All the Apples and Thanks for All the Sticky Mess'

In the past there have been many attempts at labelling the band as an 'emo', 'over emotional' or a band who has 'nothing positive to say to the world.'

In the song when it says:

'Love it, or leave it, you can't understand'
It means what the band express in their songs has a greater meaning than some people see because they have a huge lack of understanding. It also says you can either love what i do or leave it but you cant change my ways.

'You'll never make me leave, i wear this on my sleeve
Give me a reason to belive'
This is saying how no one will/can change his mind or change the way he thinks. He feels proud of what he does and you will have to provide him with a true reason to believe your way.

'So give me all your poison, and give me all your pills
and give me all your hopless hearts and make me ill '
This is refering to the treatment they were given with all the bottles calling it the 'Poison'. The 'hopeless hearts' are the people who showed huge ignorance and misunderstanding for the bands work No

Well put!

he's saying he won't change and all the people that want to change him should stop giving him advice and he's being sarcastic about how he wants poison and pills instead of their useless advice.
