In The Murder Scene  Age: 30 Gender: Female Posts: 23302 | I don't smoke and have no intention to, however, I don't have a problem with it since it is the person's choice what they do to THEIR body. In my eyes, the government should have little to do with how people spend their money as long as their smoking is not pushed upon others so they feel peer pressure to do it too. To an extent I understand the Public Smoking Ban as, in the street, if smoke is blown at your face, it's not plesant and can cause a lot of people to choke. Also, there are a lot of asmatic people and others allergic to smoke and some of the other contents in ciggerettes. So, in that respect, I understand. However, pubs is a different matter. If you go into a 'Smoking' section of a pub or bar, you have to expect smokers, it is only natural. Just like the 'Non-Smoking' section is smoker free. If you don't like one, sit in the other. People enjoy having a ciggerette with their drink so who can really blame them? As for the bartenders and barmaids, by going for that kind of a job, you have to know what that entails so if you really have a problem with smoking, why work there? |

| DeadInTheWater Fabulous Killjoy  Age: 30 Gender: Female Posts: 128 | smoking is seen as socially acceptable, which i think is wrong, smoking can be just as harmful as other drugs but just because its acceptable to smoke then its ok, if its ok to smoke in public then why isnt it ok to snort a line of coke? or inject heroin? i know they're not really on the same scale but its just a point, then again saying that i dont have a problem with people that smoke, it's their choice |

As for other drugs, I do believe they alter your perception a lot (i.e hallucinating etc.) whereas tobacco doesn't get you "high". Anyway, only girls should be allowed to smoke cigarettes, because 1. You can't exactly justify what turns you on. Nor can you make silly remarks like you made to the person in your above post. It's not your..er..fetish to judge. Some people think muscles are sexy. I think that's sick. Whatever Cancer now, who really cares. You'd have to live in a box your whole life not to know that smoking has a chance of leading to lung cancer. Everyone is aware, therefore, no one should be pittied, likewise, the fact that smoking causes cancer shouldn't be a reason to bring anyone who finds it attractive or anyone who does it down. It doesn't always cause cancer, and even if it did, it's not like we are stupid. We get it, and don't care at all. |

Death isn't silly at all when it happens due to poor circumstance, but death should be accepted when someone is doing something dangerous. I didn't appreciate you taking what that person said and blowing it up when it's perfectly obvious! We all get it! Smoking can kill you. My point is people know that and do it anyway, so why care? If you don't like smoking, don't smoke. |

But it does cause serious problems. So, I advise that someone who doesn't smoke. Don't start. But if you do, then, I'm sure you know the complications it can cause. And I personally think that no one should get treated differently for smoking. You respect everyone's opinions, so respect their decisions as well. That's what I think. |

Yes it's bad for you. Yes it causes cancer. But yet - it IS a personal choice. But I do think that it can relieve stress in some cases - I can talk personally. Because yes, it does relieve stress, and ultimately it just feels good. |

I wouldn't touch the stuff myself but if others decide to, that's their business. You can't preach to others on how to lead their lives, we discuss how awful labelling is in our society and labelling a smoker is exactly the same... just because they do something you do not agree with. At the end of the day, it isn't changing the indivual. I don't condemn it but I don't recommend it either. As to the people fighting, I understand both your points of view. Ok, smoking DEFINATLY isn't sexy in my eys but I appreciate to some, it is. Thinking something is fine, however, it's when those people start to have influence on others and their choices is when it goes wrong. Many people smoke because they feel it will make them look 'mature' and 'sexy' but this isn't the case. In some senses, they are killing themselves to be someone's idea of 'pretty' which is totally wrong... |
