argh, I suck so badly at guitar! I've been trying to teach myself for the past...maybe 5 months? I have a little brother and sister, so I'm only allowed to practice 2 hours on a good day, when I have very little homework. I'm not allowed to use my amp either although it doesn't really matter because my amp sucks ass. I can't even play the intro to Disenchanted.

Does anyone have any advice on what to start from? Do I learn scales or chords first? Or do I just skip that and go to full songs?

you should definently get the basic chords down first. E, A, G etc. The more familiar you are with your instrument the better youll be. Im completely self taught as well and id recommend (if possible) starting on a classical or accoustic guitar and then working up to an electric. Thats how i did it and i can play all of mcr's songs. It's just gonna take a lot of good, finger bleeeding, hard work to play well. keep at it though. Good luck!

I have an acoustic, but it's louder than my electric is without an amp, which is very inconvenient in my home. yeah, i'm trying to learn the chords now, and I'm glad to know I'm doing the right thing. thanks for the encouragement!

I'm doing my health homework...according to it, the part of my arm that hurts really badly right now is called the ulna. I think I might've been strumming wrong - is this possible?

I'm just starting too. I have an elecrtic and I'm trying to learn how to read tabs. I'm taking guitar in school this year (beginnning acoustic). I wanted to bring my elecric in, but the teacher said its an acoustic class.

I've been playing guitar for just over three years, and I've only got one piece of advice for new players: Twenty-thirty minutes a day, and you'll be able to play guitar in under six months. Practice scales on the strings, get a feel for moving faster and faster. Practice chord progressions, master the D chord and you're fine. I suggest you try youtube. Find a good video tutorial (just read the comments below, people will usually comment on how good/bad the tutorial is), and play along with it. Just persist, I guess. It'll come to you. Find your own style Smile
