People have insecurities, and if they have the right money and / or the inclination, then they'll get whatever they think needs to be fixed, fixed. It's just a fact of life these days. I can't see plastic surgery going away any time soon. |
tabitha Bleeding on the Floor Age: 45 Gender: Female Posts: 1831 | StarlessEyes117: Whoa, there. If someone were to be considering plastic surgery of any kind, I don't think they need to give two shits about what Gerard said. If someone were to choose to have plastic surgery, they should have it for *themselves* -- not for anyone else. Ever. Not their parents, their children, their spouses, or most especially for some rock star. I have two dear friends who recently had plastic surgery because *they* wanted it done. For both of them, their self-images have increased dramatically. One exercised for years in an attempt to "sculpt" her body herself, finally had "lipo light" to help the process. The other was self-conscious and had implants. Not giant, noticeable porn-star implants. Simple, natural looking C-sized ones. Again, her self-confidence has soared. I don't disagree with either of their choices, because they were done after much thought, for themselves, and their own self-confidence. My procedure was approved and I am having it done in June. Mine is medically necessary. It will help relieve chronic pain, although I freely admit that it will help me be less self-conscious about my body. It's not stupid. It's going to help me improve my quality of life. There are many different kinds of plastic surgery. None of them are stupid. There are many procedures that are used to help people who suffer from chronic pain, or to rebuild a person's face after trauma, or to repair birth defects. Then there are the cosmetic procedures that some women choose to alter their self-image. While I don't necessarily condone those procedures, and I've already stated that I don't like that plastic surgeons cater to womens' insecurities, it is up to each person to decide if they want to have one of those procedures. I just wish that women weren't blasted from every possible medium with an "ideal" that some of them pursue, some into massive amounts of plastic surgery. |
Littlemisschem Fabulous Killjoy Age: 31 Gender: Female Posts: 129 | I think plastic surgery is absolutely unnecessary and complete rubbish. (sorry for any offense) You should know that you are beautiful and perfect the way you were made, and no amount of corrective surgery will cover up the true ugly in you. Like that overly abused cliche, "Inner beauty counts the most".... or at least I think that's what it says. |
Noxmorexlies Jazz Hands Age: 33 Gender: Female Posts: 304 | I don't see anything wrong with Plastic Surgery. If someone has something that has always bothered them such as their nose and getting it done will boost their self-esteem I think it's a good thing. If it helps you feel better about yourself and be more confident why is that so bad? Getting plastic surgery for every little thing is addiction and completely different. |
miss mcr Jazz Hands Age: - Gender: Female Posts: 394 | I think that everyone should know that they are like, really pretty. in their own ways. even if you have choppy, frizzy wild hair, thick glasses. braces. WHATEVER- you are always beautiful to someone. but, if you were born with a skin defect of something. i might consider it. not really... it gets complicated when you are talking disabilites and stuff |
miss mcr Jazz Hands Age: - Gender: Female Posts: 394 | Littlemisschem: ok,. that was so fuc*ing beautiful... soooo well said |
LOLita Killjoy Age: 43 Gender: Female Posts: 7 | I'm cool with plastic surgery, especially if it helps people to get over their complexes; I would call it emotional help. After all, everybody can do whatever they want with their bodies. |
DIE! DIE! DIE! Bleeding on the Floor Age: 33 Gender: Female Posts: 1067 | demolition_luvrs: Inner beauty was NEVER the only thing that mattered. If that was true, people wouldn't get teased and put down for the way they looked, or ignored by the opposite sex because they are less attractive: Kids, lets be honest for a minute: while you may be willing to date someone who is ugly, you are probably less likey to go out of your way to get to know a boy or girl in terms of dating due to their looks: I have done it, and I am one of the least picky people I know when it comes to looks and dating. While in an idea world, we wouldn't judge based on looks, that's just how society is, and it won't ever change. |
HEY AMY Salute You in Your Grave Age: 32 Gender: Female Posts: 3503 | ^ sadly, that is so very true. there are a lot of people who look for someone with a great personality and attitude, but looks always seems to be up there. its sad, but true. |
Mindfuck Always Born a Crime Age: - Gender: Female Posts: 5614 | demolition_luvrs: Oh please, if only it were that easy. If only we lived in a world where that were true. Yes, it's true in theory; people are meant to be judged by their personality and not their looks, but that's not what happens. |
Cherokee Banned Age: 30 Gender: Female Posts: 2300 | This plastic crap will turn you into a plastic person. You gotta love your self, it's only for those who couldn't accept their selves. In addition, there are many other ways to gain more self-confidence! |
DIE! DIE! DIE! Bleeding on the Floor Age: 33 Gender: Female Posts: 1067 | So everyone who has plastic surgery all the sudden is a plastic person? Its amazing there are so many people here for transgendered people and so many against plastic surgery. the whole idea behind changing your sex is that you can feel more comfortable in your own skin, and so you can be who you FEEL you are..so how is changing your nose any different then getting your dick turned inside out. Please, enlighten me. |
tabitha Bleeding on the Floor Age: 45 Gender: Female Posts: 1831 | DIE! DIE! DIE!: Thank you! People need to understand that this is as much of a grey area as many of the other topics on this board. Saying that all plastic surgery is stupid, unnecessary, or completely wrong is throwing out procedures such as repairing cleft palates in a child born with that birth defect, rebuilding someone's face after trauma such as an auto accident, skin grafts for a burn victim, breast implants/reconstruction for a breast cancer survivor, breast reduction for a woman whose overdeveloped breasts cause her medical problems (or a man whose developed breasts bring him constant ridicule), skin removal for someone whose gastric bypass saved their life but left them with too much skin after significant weight loss, nose reconstruction to repair a deviated septum, the list goes on and on. Plastic surgeons do not only serve the insecure and the vapid. They serve a vital role in medical science and help hundreds of thousands of people live a normal life they might not have been able to have without some form of reconstructive surgery. HOWEVER: the insecure, the vapid, and people willing to undergo surgery purely for cosmetic reasons are those surgeons' bread and butter. Repeat business is good business and they know it. Instead of saying, "You want fries with that?" they ask "Now that you've had the Botox, why not try the lipo or the tummy tuck?" If someone is willing to have Botox, chances are they are willing to look into another procedure. No, I don't like that part about plastic surgery. But that is what our society has created. It's as much of an entrepreneurship as any other venture. Let's take it a bit further. LASIK is not a life-saving procedure. It is not necessary to live, a person's vision can be corrected through glasses or contacts. People can live normal lives without blasting their corneas with lasers. Some people do it because they don't like how they look with glasses, so it becomes a cosmetic procedure. So, if someone who wears glasses (say, Mikey, since we're on an MCR board, or my husband, for a real-life example) chooses to have LASIK to get rid of their dependence on glasses, is that stupid or wrong? |
unknown- Always Born a Crime Age: - Gender: - Posts: 5271 | Well...i think plastic surgery is stupid and unnecessary...you should be thankful for what you have and not care what other pleople think about you...a lot of people star doubting about their looks when people start judging them..and you should not really care about what they say...a lot of people judge me about my shape...about how i'm too skinny or i have a big head or an ugly face...but i really don't care what they think...it's not like i'm going to get plastic surgery because some stupid person has something to say about my looks...and even if i doubt about my looks...i don't think about plastic surgery...it just makes you a fake person...you just have to love yourself more and don't doubt what people think about your shape and body... |
DIE! DIE! DIE! Bleeding on the Floor Age: 33 Gender: Female Posts: 1067 | Well not everyone has your riviting self confidence Who are you to judge what people do to their bodies anyway? |
Bittersweet Spell Killjoy Age: 30 Gender: Female Posts: 36 | Honestly i absolutly hate it i would only get it if i was in some freak accident and my nose was ripped off (ouch) and whats sad is thats my mom shes likes it acully in like 20 days or so shes going to get her nose boobs done and get lypo and i think she is so pretty i wish she could see it. |
Radio Saturday Salute You in Your Grave Age: 34 Gender: Female Posts: 3513 | I think... Well, to me there's plastic surgery and there's plastic surgery. Let me explain: I have a friend. She's pretty short (under four feet), but she had very large breasts for her size. She was about fifteen-sixteen, and already had serious back pain because of the size of her breasts. She was having a hard time participating in sports and dance because of it. So -- and this was partly on the advice of her doctor -- she had a breast reduction. She's really happy, and she's a lot more fit now than she was before. Is that bad? It wasn't necessary, per se -- she could have lived without it -- but it increased her quality of life. And I think reconstructive surgery is a great thing. I mean, if I were in a severely disfiguring accident and reconstructive surgery would help me to minimize that damage, I wouldn't hesitate to go for it, nor would I even think of condemning others for doing it. I mean... Obviously, if a person needs reconstructive surgery, there's some kind of horrible thing in his/her past, so why make him/her feel worse by saying, "You shouldn't get plastic surgery! You're a bad person!" And I really don't think it's my place to criticize people for having sex-reassignment surgeries. That's their choice. If it can improve their quality of life that much more and make them that much of a happier person, then that's great. But I think too many people turn to plastic surgery because they simply have low self-esteem. And many people who do have unnecessary plastic surgery done -- women getting breast implants they don't need, for example -- are often much more likely to go back and have more work done, and I believe I read that many also have lower self-esteem, even after having a procedure done. I don't tend to agree with this kind of surgery... But again, it's all about personal choice. It's not for me to say to someone, "I think you're an inherently bad person because you had this surgery done." It's someone else's choice, like getting a tattoo. Who am I to say to someone that this is wrong? So... Yes. Two cents duly given. |
DIE! DIE! DIE! Bleeding on the Floor Age: 33 Gender: Female Posts: 1067 | Radio Saturday: Wow....way to completely contradict yourself. Isn't the outcome and reasoning behind sex reassignment pretty much the same for low self esteem surgery? Either way, someone is uncomfortable in their own skin, and the surgery will fix something they concider and error, therefore improving their life |
Radio Saturday Salute You in Your Grave Age: 34 Gender: Female Posts: 3513 | DIE! DIE! DIE!: You've a made good point there. Thank you for pointing out my error. |
Chantal Bleeding on the Floor Age: 29 Gender: Female Posts: 1015 | I am completely for plastic surgery in any way. I myself had some plastic surgery after I had a dog bite me next to my eye. I am also for it if someone wants to do something like a nose job. The person must not feel comfortable in their skin at all to want to give all the energy and time required to find a good plastic surgeon and the money needed for surgery. I would never want someone else to feel that way and if they feel this is the only way they can make themselves happier, go for it.I am also for it if someone possibly feels comfortable with themselves, but wants to use surgery and modify their body as a form of personal expression It may not be as common or excepted, but to me this is just like a tattoo or a piercing or anything people do to express themselves through their appearance |
