For those of you that dont know, Straight Edge (or sXe) is a lifestyle that prohibits drinking alcohol, smoking, taking recreational drugs and having promiscious sex. Some Straight Edgers like myself also avoid caffeine and unnecessary medicinal drugs, and there are also the really straight edge people who avoid chemicals in foods. What is your opinion on the Straight Edge lifestyle? |

Age: - Gender: Female Posts: 334 | June 10th, 2006 at 07:04pm I think it is a very good idea. I never realized it, but that's sorta how I am already! (Well, really am.) It promotes being healthy and safe. Again, I think it's a good idea. |

Age: 32 Gender: Female Posts: 320 | June 10th, 2006 at 07:11pm I'd consider myself sXe.
I'm not a hardline, extremist no caffeine/no prescription drugs (hey, I'd love to, but due to the nature of a medical condition of mine...I'd just die) /vegan sXe person.
I just follow the philosophy loosely. Because drug culture is weak and selfish, I don't want to be drawn into that. |

I'm Straight Edge & I think that if more people were, they would influence others to become straight edge also. It just makes my life easier, & I think it could make many lived easier, too. |

Age: 35 Gender: Female Posts: 36414 | June 10th, 2006 at 09:20pm I don't have a problem with Straight Edgers, but I do have a problem with it when they try and force their beliefs onto other people.
I know not all Straight Edgers are like that, but a lot of them that I have met are. |

Age: 33 Gender: Female Posts: 4002 | June 10th, 2006 at 11:42pm I think I’m pretty much Straight edge...no drinking alcohol, smoking, having promiscuous sex and no drug use. But I must admit I have drank alcohol before....just not like alot. Only like a daiquiri or a few sips of wine at a wedding...but lately listening to my friend taking about getting drunk and what not, I think I really want go Straight edge completely. I KNOW it gonna be a little hard not to drink, but I also think drinking is not needed to have a good time!!! |

Age: - Gender: - Posts: 8558 | June 11th, 2006 at 04:09am I am edge, and I think I've regained a lot more respect from my parents since I told them.
I've been given more freedom and trust, because they know that I'm not gonna go to a party and get myself trashed and then high off weed.
I am vegetarian, but it's not associated with the straight edge lifestyle. But a lot of us are for animal rights.
It's good to see some others on this board that are. I don't try and force my beliefs on people, but some others that I've met tried to force me into being vegan, which I don't really want to do. |

You're just following the law.
Any opinions? |

Age: 31 Gender: Female Posts: 5369 | June 11th, 2006 at 04:17am I'm not sure. I don't drink alchohol on a regular basis, I don't smoke, I don't tak recreational drugs, and I'm a bit young to be having sex, promiscous or not. I guess it would make the world a better place if more people were straight edge, but I guess that's just my opinion. Some of my friends are smokers, two are basically straight edge, one of which is a vegetarian, and one drinks..a lot. But none of them try and push their beliefs one one another. |

Well, there is kinda a difference.
If youre just following the law, then you might be like, damn I can't smoke or drink yet, but I will be able to when im 18! yay!
and if you're straight edge you'll probably be more like I'm never gonna drinkalchohol or smoke or take drugs, even afer im 18. |

Age: 36 Gender: Female Posts: 1155 | June 11th, 2006 at 04:59am I'm not straight edge, nor do I want to be. I don't think drinking alchohol at parties or smoking from time to time is that bad. I know it's not good for my body, but I don't think the consequences are that serious. Maybe I'll go straight edge when I'm 40 and married with children, but right now I'm 19 and I want to party.
I don't have anything against straight edge people, I really admire them for their strong will, but I think they're exaggerating a bit. |

Age: - Gender: Female Posts: 19598 | June 11th, 2006 at 05:45am I'm completely for straight edge.
I've already spoken to my parents about alcohol and drugs, and they know where I stand.
There's no way I could or would ever touch drugs and alcohol, because I just don't see the point really. Why rely on alcohol/drugs etc. to have a good time? - That's just my way of thinking about it.
I'm not vegetarian nor vegan, but I see very valid reasons with the choice of becoming one.
I don't call myself straight edge, but I definitely have a lot of sXe morals. |

No.
Because in my country, if i'm under 18 (and over 16) I can still smoke.
If i'm under 18, I can drink all I want, provided someone else buys alcohol for me. I can drink from age 4 in the UK, I just can't buy any alcohol. Not that I'd want to, but those are the laws. |

Age: 33 Gender: Female Posts: 7271 | June 11th, 2006 at 11:36am I dont really consider myself straight edge, but that's only because I have caffine and take prescription drugs if I'm ill. I think I might take the next step and become fully sXe when I leave home, by cutting out caffine completely. Not that I think theres anything wrong with caffine at all... it's just something I'd like to do. Sort of a personal chalenge. I dont drink, and I dont take drugs in any form, though =]
Some of my friends dont take me all that seriously, though =/ Ive been bitched at a few times because I dont particularly want to sit in a park and get drunk on a friday night. I find that kind of thing sad, really O.o |

Age: 33 Gender: Female Posts: 6686 | June 11th, 2006 at 02:21pm I have a lot of respect for people who are straight edge. They have much greater willpower than I do and are much stronger people.
The world probably would be a better place if everyone was straight edge, but people always seem to do what is worst for them no matter what.
Like I implied above I am not straight edge. I sometimes wish I was but at others I think trying "bad" things out is all part of growing up - a stupid irresponsible part, but a part none-the-less. |
