Icy Blues: I think it's called bassmaster.com or something like that. It's pretty good, imo.

I just started learning a few weeks ago. I'm getting lessons from my friend.

I know how to play guitar, kind of, and i'm planning to learn bass 'coz it looks easy to play.

when you're like a beginner or eventhough you're not, do you have to know the name of the stings you press in each fret?

in my guitar class last year we had to memorize it and after a week i forgot the names, i only remember E F and G. So if i'm supposed to learn that, i think im doomed.

bass is like strings are the same as guitar strings 3,4,5 and 6 but an octave deeper.
you need to have strong fingers to push down the strings and good timing so you can play the notes in the correct rhythm.

Once you practise where the notes are they are easy to remember

The Notes in First Position
E A D G
l----------------l--------------l--------------l
l F lA# (Bb) l D#(Eb) l G# (Ab)
l_ _______l________l________ l
lF# (Gb) l B l E l A
l_______ _l________l________ l
lG l C l F lA# (Bb)
l_____ ___l_____ __ l________l
lG#(Ab) l C# (Db) lF# (Gb) l B
l_______ _l________l________l

I hope you can understand this.. it took me ages to write it out...

Edit: It didnt show up properly so here:

pm me if you need me to explain it.

Haha, yeah. If you play guitar, learning bass should be no problem.
Bass is basically the same thing as guitar only waywaywayyy easier. xD

its not "waywaywayyyy easier"
it all depends on the person...
Bass can be way more difficult for some people

Well, If you've played guitar for years and then picked up a bass for the first time, then guitar would probably be easier for you, I suppose, but if you look at it from a beginner's standpoint, bass would more than likely be easier because there are only four strings, chords are rarely used, and bass parts are normally more repetitive and less complex then guitar parts.
So yeah, guess it could be different for some people, but I don't really see why that would be the case.
I'm not just talking out of my ass, by the way; I've been playing bass for almost five years and guitar for three.
All I really meant was that if that person had experience playing guitar, learning bass should be no problem.

okay, i get it now. it's really like guitar. and those strings that you showed are the strings that i forgot. hahah.

btw. i think it's not the right time to ask this but how would you know what bass tabs [if that's what you call it] will fit in a music? like when you're writing songs.

Are you meaning bass lines?
you need to find out the key of your music and know the scale (the notes that are in that key) and then work something out that fits with your other instruments.

Or you can do the non technical way and just play around and see what sounds right.

I dont know if this is answering your question or not.
But just feel free PM me if there is anything else you would like to know

I named him Dallas, lmao. It's a black Ashton.

I'm trying to learn to play with a pick, I'm used to playing with my fingers.

^ Me too!
I'm yet to name him.
It's an Ibanez.
Question: Is it better to get lessons or learn by yourself?
I guess it could be really obvious, but I just want other people's opinions XD.

I think lessons would be better
unless you had like, dvds or books which could help you learn by yourself.

I take lessons, but all we really do is learn songs haha.
Though that's probably just my teacher.

^My teacher does it to.
It's really annoying, 'cause there all songs he loves, and I don't know.

He finally taught me a scale. (Y)
