Eh...I can play bass, yet I'm not that good, though. Neutral

I can play "Iron Man", and "Paranoid" by Black Sabbath.

What I can play by my chem. is "Helena" and I'm not Okay."

Soon, though... I'll probably be good. ^_^

But Seriously, My chem. songs are almost too easy to play.. Shocked

I play bass, but I'm amazing at guitar, so I like to write cool bass lines for my band. Bass is quite a bit different than guitar though, and it took me a while to get used to.
I can play bass to every mcr song, since I know the guitar part for every mcr song.

I'm a guitarist, but I can play two songs on bass (but they're so easy anyone could). TNT and Back In Black (AC/DC).

Question.

i'm gonna buy a bass for my birthday and try and teach myself how to play.
is it easier for me to learn using a pick or without and just use my fingers?

I agree... I am used to playing mikeys boring basslines. I went and tried somesongs from "Lies For The Liars" and i got them so wrong, and I'm still trying to un-knot the fingers onmy left hand!

errm... its a good idea to learn both- for versatility.

I got my bass, and I didnt teach myself to play with my fingers- and i suck at it now!!!

I just picked up bass, I'm playing it in a band. I don't actually have one, but I'm borrowing it from the local music place.

I suggest playing bass with your fingers,I find most musicians don't but once you've got that down path its easy to switch between different types of music cause jazz and stuff is alot better when played with your fingers in my opinion, though if you just intend on playing rock then a pick isn't a bad idea cause most bass players use a pick.It really depends on who's playing the bass and what you're more comfortable with. For me I learnt how to play bass with my fingers therefor im more prone to playing my bass with my fingers.*shrugs*it really just depends on your preference and what is more ocmfortable for you.

I find using a pick really hard.
I fall through onto the next string or hit the wrong string, yet with my fingers I tend to be very accurate.

Use both. Almost all basists nowadays use picks, because you can't play sixteenth notes with your fingers. It's hard when you first start out with a pick, but it's better in the long run.

You can play sixteenth notes with your fingers. But it requires a strong fretting hand from pull-offs and hammer-ons.

So, most boring bass players use picks.

^Ya, but you can have some boring sixteenth note riffs inside a cool bass part. I think it's really better to use a pick.

It depends what you're playing.
Orginally, bass for cretaed for jazz, and because jazz uses a lower subtle sound, they used fingers. so playing with fingers became the traditional thing to do.
But with most things, traditions change and you're hard pitched to find a finger playing bassist.

If you don't mind me changing the subject, I just wanna ask what you guys (being bass players and all) think of MCR's Stand in Bass Player- Matt Cortez.
I think he's a bit more confident than Mikey- you can hear coz Matt has his bass a bit louder.
