There is so much violence. I mean, just think, once they found drugs in a toilet at my school. The world is going to chaos. So I know it's about violence between teenand themselves and teens and the world. Rebelious, competitave,

one thing that got me with this song was the line
"maybe they'll leave you alone but not me"
is that as in Gerard wont leave 'you' alone
or the teenagers wont leave Gerard alone

i kind of think that every song can be interpreted so many ways, but its up to you to let you decidewhats the main one, not other people, though what they say might perswade your opinio;n. but they wouldn't bemaking thedecition for you. if any oneeven understood that lmao!!

Its also about him going on the subway to school (?) everyday and there were a pack of teenagers that always made him paranoid well, teenagers themselves.

It sounds like with the "they'll leave you alone but not me", it saying that people are blaming Gerard/MCR/music in general for all the violent teenagers and stuff.

I always imagined Teenagers as the Patient looking back on his younger years as a juvenile delinquent.

The Patient is talking about his life in Hospital, talking about how they keep him in and never let him go, hence the lines "because they sleep with a gun, and keep an eye on you son, so they can watch all the things you do." The patient is in pain saying that "the drugs never work" and that "They're gonna give you a smirk". He remarks about how they dont care and "They could care less as long as someone'll bleed". The chorus repeated says "Maybe they'll leave you alone, but not me", possibly talking about how the cancer is eating him up, and wont stop.

These are Gerard's exact wurds "Teenagers and ingenant to violence, how they are watched over and overmedicated, they are a group of people who think that they can only solve a lot of their problems with violence, alot of them are made to feel invisible, it addresses how kids lash out at other kids, kids lashing out against society" says Gerard

NONONONO.

im watching them on much music right now.

Gerard said Teenagers is about gun violence.

SOLVED.

She's right.. Gerard said Teenager's is about gun violence in teens and shit.

I thought it was about a kid taking out years of bullying on the students. Like a shooting.
"What you got under your shirt
Will make them pay for the things that they did."

It's pretty straightforward.

reminds me of the oh so awsome movie 'Elephant'

I thought that this song was more about how sociality see today’s youth – and the message is something along the lines of don’t stereotype as not all teenagers are like this, I don’t see it as coming through the bands mouth but they are mimicking other people who constantly slate teenagers as being bad people. And a message to teenagers not to try and fit in and ‘do what everyone is doing’ or you could end up making the mistake of you life…..

‘They’re gonna clean up your looks
With all the lies in the books
To make a citizen out of you
Because they sleep with a gun
And keep an eye on you, son
So they can watch all the things you do’

When I first heard it I thought this verse was about being in the army XD

Do I make any sense Very Happy

this song is about school violence, I think:
then beginning talks about kind of being caged in and controlled by older society, then it moves on to the younger part of society

"you're never gonna fit in much, kid"
"If you're down and you're hurt"
meaning he was teased and made an outcast
"what you got under your shirt will make them pay for the things that they did"
the kid brings a gun to school and goes after the clique that made fun of him:
"the awful names that they stick"

in the beginning:
"rip up your head/you asperations to shreds"
adults are trying to make a perfect citizen model clone out of him, and he sees that.

I might be wrong, but that's what I think.

it's about how when gerard started singing he wasnt used to all the attention from teenagers, and how the depended on him or something. And how when normal people get attention from teenagers it doesn't stay on them for long, but himbeing famous gets him more attention. And how to blend in with most teens...darken your clothes and strike a violent pose...you wont stick out if you do that.
I think...

I read somewhere that Gerard got the idea of teenagers scaring him from riding the subway

he did..in the booklet that comes with the special edition album if you read it it says something along the lines of that..if im correct he ended up hiding behind a notebook and writing lyrics because of all the damn school kids on the subway..
I seriously on the other hand thought the saong was about some rebelious teenagers that were like fighting to the death or something..but then again i have a fucked up imagination

In Gerard's own words:
"It was pretty comical"...
"I started having a striaght-up panic attack. To deal with this, I hid under my notebook and just started to write lyrics"

YEAH! he was riding the subway when he saw some teenagers and felt like he couldn't relate to them etc etc =)

and Gespatcho_Soup, i don't think you're crazy =)

Gee is having a pre-midlife crisis! :Mr. Green

Can't say I blame him... And I can totally relate to the sentence "Teenagers scare the living shit out of me" 'cause they do! Neutral

I guess I'm having a pre-quarter of a century crisis or something. Very Happy

But to me the song is about the need for most teens to fit in with the crowd and when one doesn't fit in it's really hard on that person as then no one leaves him/her alone...
