Sid Salute You in Your Grave Age: 32 Gender: Female Posts: 2065 | I think that if you're young, depending on your intelligence and such, most kids won't be able to fully understand the concepts/meanings and just like the tune or whatever. However, like I know I did, most will grow with the music and begin to understand it, so they appreciate it way more. |
Ahead of the Curve Always Born a Crime Age: 31 Gender: Female Posts: 5918 | i think its ace younger kids gettin into mcr even if they dont understand it yet when their older they will my lil brothers 11 and hes going to see them with me in November |
DeWitt. Crash Queen Age: 31 Gender: - Posts: 31119 | I'm not overly for younger fans getting into MCRs music. Like, if my sister started listening to them (she's turning sx come march) I do belive I'd pitch a fit. Some of their lyrics/most of them are extremely explicit and should not be heard by a younder child. Ten year old are cool for it, I suppose, possibly even eight year olds. (depending on their maturity level) But, if they're listening to them at that age, it really makes you wonder where the hell their parents priorites lie. They should still be monitoring what their child watches/reads/listens to when they're at that age. There's nasty shit out there. |
The Original Bob. Demolition Lover Age: 29 Gender: Female Posts: 16672 | i'm 12. and i wouldn't be here without MCR. if we get it, we get it, but you might not have noticed, YOU HEAR SWEARING. wherever you are, on a bus in school, people swear. and if you're THAT young, you wont get the concept. so you like the music part of it, good for you. MCR is my life right now, if i wasn;t allowed to listen to them i don;t know what i would do. |
skittle_slut Thinking Happy Thoughts Age: 32 Gender: Female Posts: 574 | i ike what gerard said about mcr resonating with the young audiences. that we're starting to realize that we are going to potentially raise a kid in a world where you have to worry about terrorist attacks and stuff like that. he puts it really well (this is the interveiw where gerard talks about turning thirty.) |

CherriBoomBoom Fabulous Killjoy Age: 30 Gender: Female Posts: 116 | it really depends, if they understand the topics the metaphores and all, and what they went through... Sure it's a matter of maturity, but my friend was 11 when she started listening to them and she still likes them. I would not say mean things about a young fan, though. I understand what being a fan means. |

Addabitty Joining The Black Parade Age: 30 Gender: Female Posts: 216 | My sister just turned twelve, and my brother is five. They used to like them...a few months ago. When I was going to Projekt, my brother even said, "Adda, if I could go, I would dress up as Gerard". Now they're just sick of hearing about them. |
desert skies. Shotgun Sinner Age: - Gender: - Posts: 7229 | Personally I don't think the language is good for really young fans and I don't think they would really understand the lyrics and the meanings. Besides their young. They can't keep their mind on one thing for too long xD Thats what it's like for my sister and brother. |
the sharpest lives. Shotgun Sinner Age: 30 Gender: Female Posts: 8710 | I've been an MCR fan since I was 10. I instantly connected to them. I wasn't a stupid 10 year old, either. I understood and still understand the message they bring across in their music, and it still has a huge impact on every second of my day. I don't think age matters at all. You can be 10 or 50, and the songs they write can affect you the smallest or biggest ways. It just depends on how you accept the music and your reaction to it. If you treat the music and lyrics as imporntant and amazing writings, then you are a fan, regardless of your age. The lyrics didn't really mean much to me when I was younger. I understood it though, but the music didn't have the huge impact it has on me now. Nevertheless, I fell in love with the band at a young age and am still devoted to the music the invent. |
Lounge Fly Bleeding on the Floor Age: 32 Gender: Male Posts: 1061 | I think it's alright. My little sister is seven, and she's a Justin Timberlake and High School Musical freak. I've been trying to wean her off that and onto real music (start with MCR and FOB, then move to grunge and hard rock) and it's slowly working. I don't worry about the lyrics because she knows all the bad words in there (I taught her how to swear when she was five and made her promise to never repeat them in front of our parents) and doesn't use them. I don't care anyway; they're just words for fuck's sake and the kids will learn them anyway. It's better they learn them soon and learn their appropriate context rather then hear them late like me and use them non-stop. |
tabitha Bleeding on the Floor Age: 45 Gender: Female Posts: 1831 | I work with elementary school kids (5-11 year olds) and some of them are into MCR. Now I'm not going to get into it with their parents whether they think it's right or wrong, because they as parents should be involved with what their child is listening to. My thing is, children that age are learning to express themselves. They aren't necessarily old enough to find their own style, but they are old enough to know what they do and do not like, and what they can relate to. If it's MCR, great. If it's Hannah Montana, that's fine too. So if an 8 or 9 or 10 year old feels moved by MCR (or similar bands, insert any band name here), for their look, their music, or their message, I'm fine with that. In fact, to me, it shows that child has more imagination and more expression, because they are already going against the grain and exploring options. God knows, they spend their day being shuttled from class to class, stand in line, don't do this, don't do that, don't ask questions, just do as you're told. I think it's awesome that there are some who are already looking for ways to express their individuality. In fact, I have a lot of respect for a kid who, at that age, is already willing to be different. Believe me, in a world full of Disney Channel drivel which the majority of the kids slurp up like sugar water, it's refreshing to have a few kids who see the rest of the world outside of the rose-tinted bubble. (and I made an MCR onesie for my niece, due on the 17th. She'll be the coolest kid in her day care.) |
GasolineRainbow Jazz Hands Age: 33 Gender: Female Posts: 330 | I wasn't mature when i was 10, lol, i listened to crap that i barely even understood. when i was at the concert in belfast there was a lot of kids with their parents and when Gerard was cursing onstage i could seem them on the balconys acting all shocked. |
XDanni-DaydreamX Killjoy Age: 30 Gender: Female Posts: 84 | I think as long as the younger fans are mature enough then it's fine. |
harry goldfarb. Bleeding on the Floor Age: 28 Gender: Female Posts: 1347 | I know it's been stated so many times, but I agree: it depends on the child. My little sister is 9 and she isn't a huge fan, but I introduced them to her just by her overhearing me listening to them, and wanted some on a CD. So I gave her the clean songs she would like (which, surprisingly, is a lot). My parents don't want her getting into explicit music just yet, but she's a good fan. I think she wouldn't understand the concept of it all. But if the kid is mature and doesn't like it just because they hear cuss words, I think it doesn't matter how old they are to be a fan. |
