I sing and play guitar and piano (badly!). I've been a singer in a few bands. Thus far, its only been covers, but I want to be in a serious band doing originals. A band I had with my mates played at some school events. And I was with the band at my mum's work - I was the youngest by a serious margin, but they had some amazing musicians. But unfortunately, that all went to hell in a handcart when the guitarists had a bit of a falling out. So at the minute, I'm sort of between bands. I almost have something sorted with two mates (a guitarist and a drummer) but not really.

And this sounds really weak, but I don't have a mic (I used to nick one from our drummer - or his daughter!) but as soon as I get my hands on one, hopefully, I'll put something up.

The only tips I would give are to relax, enjoy performing, practice hard (and don't whinge about it!) and to take note of compliments but accept constructive criticism too.

Oh and more advice - find a couple of songs that you can sing well (or practice them until you can sing them well!) acapella. That way, if anyone brings up the subject, you can give them a little rendition. Its good practice and it might get you a gig or a role in a band. I got into a previous band and offers from other bands by singing in pubs when the opportunity arose. Whenever my family goes to hotels, if the band doesn't mind, I'll get up with them and sing. I've also got gigs from karaoke! If you want to perform, be prepared to give it a go at a moment's notice.

I've been singing since forever, and all my friends say I can sing great. I guess they're right, I can sing well, but I'd like to know some advice on maintaining your voice, and getting to higher and lower pitches without having to sound like a goose being killed (if there is any other way). Basically just how to get better, I guess.

I sing...tentatively. I can control my voice relatively well, but hitting high notes and real low ones always take extra, extra effort. Singing live, on stage and being active is really tiring! I've done it...and horribly too. >< It makes me appreciate most live performances more.

Learning to breathe right.

when you take a breath your stomach should drop(your diaphram will drop, which inflates the lungs). (Your stomach should look like your trying to make your self look pregnant, come you all know you've done it.lol) When you sing you slowly make the air flow by sucking your stomach in, and while your holding in, pull up, as if some one was pulling you by the head straight up. and when you go to take your next breath, you take in the breath and drop your stomach. Breathe like this ALL THE T IME.(while singing)

As for getting to the higher notes, just trust the air, like when you breathe out hot air, use that air to make it breathy, it really helps me.

helpful much?

Thanks, that helped a lot!
I never really took much notice of how I breathed, as long as I got my stomach out.
