I don't download illegally. I just can't bring myself ot do it. I mean, it's stealing in the worst form. These people put so much time and effort into writing and creating that song. They spent hours and hours on it. I can't steal that, I can steal anything else, no problem, but music, for some reason, I can't do it.
Especially with the music industry in the state that it's in. You all are saying it's ok to steal because the band is going to get all that money from touring and crap.
Um...record producers don't go on tour. The people who helped record it, the makers...none of those people get paid when you steal. I could care less about the money going into the band's pockets, bands are always going to be paid.
It's the other people I'm worried about.
The less people who buy music, the less money they make, and eventually not enough money will be made and the industry collapses.

Well...maybe it won't be that drastic.

But....pretty damn close.

I don't think it's fair to the band to illegally download music.
Sure, it may be more convenient for you, but it's still not fair.
It's kind of like stealing their money, you could say. =/

They've done something here in central Texas to stop illegal downloading.
I watched the news a few weeks ago and saw them say that if a police officer sees you with a CD that looks like you had downloaded the songs, they charge you for it.

Really, I don't think they should just jump to conclusions like that. Most people buy the CDs anyway.

---

And, anyway, I like LimeWire for downloading music. But something I don't like about it is the amount of porn it has. So, if you don't like to watch porn, you have to be careful what you click on.
Another thing about the LimeWire thing is that downloading some of the songs can allow viruses into your computer. Which, of course, is bad for your computer.

Wow. See....I don't agree with illegal downloading, but a disk that APPEARS to have illegal downloads on it.
That's a little extreme.
But if you're caught illegally downloading, they can go into your computer and charge you for every song you didn't pay for. I don't mean charge you money, I mean criminally charge you for it.
Just another reason NOT to do it.

Honestly, I download music.
ALOT of music. Unless I actually like the band. Then I will buy the CD.

I dont feel guilty. People can call me evil, but I do not feel anything for ripping them off. Its cheap and easy, and I dont have the money to go out and buy every single CD because I like 1 song off it.
I have very few bands where I like every song so me going out and buying someones CD for one decent song is pointless.
Plus Itunes frustrates the hell out of me

I pretty much agree with everything Stevie Nicks said. I know it's wrong, actually I think at the moment it's criminal over here, and you could get a pretty nasty fine if you're caught sharing music online. I try to support local bands, my very favourites and so on, but you gotta admit that CD's cost way too much. For a student budget, to get every album I like, I'd end up eating my nails instead of food.

Though I'm pretty happy that the "legal" downloading has become so much easier. I don't like iTunes, but there are so many other shops on the internet where you can download music. And, as I have most of the music on my computer and on my iPod, I really don't even need normal CD's anymore. Yeah, the covers are nice, but if I can get the same music half the price from the Internet, I'll do it. And the artist is still going to profit from it.

i think iTunes is okay, but downloading without paying doesn't strike me as fair to the hardworking band

itunes is legal, and the people that worked on the album do progit from it.
And itunes isn't that bad, yea, it adds up after awhile, but at least the people that created the song that you can't get enough of, get the money they deserve. It takes a lot of hard work and talent to get going in this business, I don't care how much it adds up too, I think that stealing music is wrong. It's not "evil" but it's not right. If I can't afford the cd or the song off of itunes, then I'll live without it until I can.

My dad says I'm not allowed to use Limewire coz it's too illegal. Although I have downloaded a couple of CD's illegally though and I feel pretty bad about it. Although 95% of my music comes from Digirama.com (it's legal) or I but CD's

I must admit, half my playlist (and thats a big playlist I might add) is all there through illegal downloading. Limewire is like my best friend. Though I still do buy a lot of CD's. I usually only use Limewire if I want a certain song, but I dont want anything else from that artist, why waste 20 bucks on an entire CD if I only want one freakin song? Thats where Limewire and other downloaders come on handy.

I usually only use limewire now, because I had Itunes and when my computer crashed all my music was deleted and Itunes wanted me to repay for songs I had already legally downloaded.
I have also noticed that certain bands/cds/songs are not available on Itunes, and stores do not have much variety of cds anymore (atleast near me)

Mostly, I just hate Itunes anymore.

Well I cant afford to live without it until I can. Because I cant afford the things. I dont feel guilty whatsoever about downloading. The bands I like, I will buy their CD's, because I want them to profit. But the rest, I could honestly care less. I am sure they would make it back from touring with overly priced shows.

I tend to download a lot of music. But I will always buy the albums of my favorite artists to support them.
