i was like 7 when 9/11 happened.
my dad was in Washington DC that day, he works for the goverment and he's gone alot. i walked in my moms room to tell her i was up and saw her stare in horror at the tv, it was only in New York at the moment that a plane had flown into, but seeing my moms horrified face i got the idea right there something big was happening. i kept asking her what was going on, finally she said, "some bad people are tring to ruin our country." i couldn't quite get it all but i knew it was really bad i sat there and watched the news report on her bed till it was time to go to school. i was going to a private school, they never mentioned it happening, and a day later it was agianst the rules to talk about it. my dad was going to the pentagon later that day, and the office he was supose to be in got a direct hit. instead he was down the street in some other building watching it all. we weren't able to get a hold of him till 3 days later. but till then my mom was a wreck.
i don't know if the goverment really could've totally stopped it from happening. but as long as this country is free, other countrys will always be trying to take that away/ruin us. they think we have it so easy, and we do considering other countrys. so in away for them it's like a way to avenge their pain i guess

i just think thar although it was an horrible thing i dont think that the goverment should have used it as an excuse to start a war in iraq...and i also think its disgusting of them to start it on septemeber 11
and yes they say it had nothing to do with the terrioists attack but...

Last time I checked it was Weapons of Mass Destructions that the government used as their excuse to invade Iraq, not 9-11
That was Afghanistan.

I was in New York a month ago and I remember getting on the subway and I was heading to the World Trade Center station. I remember stepping out of the turnstiles and just everything being eerily quiet and the first thing you see is this gate with mesh over it and some people tore holes into the mesh and I peeked through and all you could see broken pieces of cement and chunks of metal and construction crews. Even thought 9-11 happened 6 years ago, you could still get this feeling of chaos.
I walked along the sidewalk and kept looking over at the mess below and then I see this guy who was a police officer and was there on 9-11. He had his SUV parked along ground zero with an American flag on the side of his vehicle and he's giving this huge lecture on what happened and he shows photos of the towers getting hit and then collapsing.
Near the end, he brings out this photo album and he shows these horrible photos of body parts strewn on the ground and some bodies layed out on the cement right where we were standing. Everyone was horrified and then the guy brings out a photo of a womans hand on the ground and shows a little boy and hes visibly scared and I didn't think it was fair he did that to a small child. But whatever. I guess he was trying to prove a point.

Though I was not there and I was young when it happened, I still feel really strongly for everyone affected by what happened that day.

At the time I didn't really know what had happened. My mum picked me up from school and said to me "Simon there has been a big explosian" or something like that and the news was on alot.
It was only a few months later that I realised that it was a terroist attack and thats when I knew what terroism was.
It's kind of scary because this whole world all the major cities in the world are like a ticking time bomb and it could happen again and worse.
But at the same time 9/11 is to (dare I say) thank for My Chemical Romance with out it Gerard could still be working in an office in New York or worse by now he might have killed him self.

I'm sure to be shouted down for this, but...

I believe that in a lot of ways it was the fault of the US Government. If they hadn't interfered in Middle Eastern affairs, would Osama bin Laden have had any urge to blow up the Towers? People don't just wake up one day and say, "I'm going to commit a terrorist act".

I lost my uncle in the disaster, so it is also close to home. (He was on the plane that hit the Pentagon).

But seriously, to stop another 9/11, rather than trying to take down the enemies, the USA needs to do some soul searching about it's role in the world.

i believe it was the US government, because apparently we knew about the attack days before.
where was the US military as well? apparently they weren't around at the time of the attack.
and wasn't bush in texas on one of his ranchs or reading to a grammar school kids?
the whole thing behind 9/11, we will never know. but even at the time it happened (i was 11), i damn well understood what was going on. and now that i am older... i do not believe it ust to be a terrorist attack, i believe it to be something constructed by the US government.

^He was in Florida (reading to grammar school kids).
I blame the government the same way shadow_666 does; defense, etc. only does so much. Those people hated us (and still do) for a reason. Much better fix our foreign practice than spend all our money on defenses terrorists will probably find a way around anyway.

Do you think America is responsible in some way (like Maggie Gyllenhaal said)?
--Well, no. I don't think that at all. It's been said a few times here, and I agree. It was the terrorists attack. It was an attack of war, and we did nothing to provoke it. They attacked inncoent citizens. America is the epitome of a strong, safe country. That's why they did this. That's why they attacked us. I personally want to rip them limb from limb.
But that's just me.

Was it our President's fault?
--No. Bush may not be the best president, and I do not like his decisions BUT he did not ask for this. As far as I know, the only way this was his fault is if he stood there and said, "Hey guys! Over here!"

What can be done to prevent this from happening again?
--I hate the war. I really do, but it proves that America isn't going to lay down and let people attack them. It needs to happen, even though I hate it.

How are we going to stop it? We had days, and the government gets threats ALL the time, there is NO way they could've known. Maybe there is more that they could've done, but it's not like they just sat there.
And what, pray tell, was the military supposed to do? Fighter jets were up there escorting passenger planes to landing, making sure it wasn't more terrorist. What were they supposed to do? Hmm? I don't see it. It's an army, to gather troops takes time. It's not a simple phone call. We didn't have the TIME.

i think that the US provoked (in some way) the terrorist to blow up the buildings...

if bush didn't interfere with Iraq's business then, they would not be annoyed and they would not blow up new york...

and if the US already received the threats from the terrorists, they would've taken it very seriously and secured the US especially the possible places for a terrorist attack... Smile Laughing

^Iraq didn't blow anything up.
It was members of Al-Qaeda, most of whom were Saudi.

^^exactly.
No country was behind the attacks on America. It was a bunch of crazy Islamic extremists.
And the US government already admits that they got wind of a possible terrorist attack. And there is no way of securing a city like NYC. It's HUGE and there are a gabillion ways in.
I didn't read the 9/11 report, this is all from watching the news, but I don't think they knew where the attack was going to be.

i think the 9/11 attacks are one of the most influencial events in history. I'm not American, but I am really affected about history.
About what we can do about it, i think there is only one way. We can't predict the future but we can ready ourselves before it happens again.

9/11 was an extremely hard thing for me to watch. I live in Brooklyn, New York which is right next to NYC.
my dad works in NYC,my uncle does too,and so does my best friend.
out of these three people i've lost two my uncle and best friend because my uncle worked in the towers, and my friend at the moment was visiting nyc and decided to go in the towers.
When i heard they died in the towers i cried everyday.
also because the day the towers collapes i was showing my friends family around the state and we were at the port in brooklyn that overlooks the city. So the towers fell in front of my eyes.and my friends parents were video taping it.

The governent should have always been perpared whats there excuse of the attack is what i wanna know. Why the citys denfense was never strong. How come this attack wasnt stopped.

Even after 9/11 is to this day everything has changed not only because of the lost lives but because of the laws.so many rights are and were threatened.

What Rights Are Being Threatened?
*First Amendment- Freedom of religion, speech, assembly, and the press
*Fourth Amendment- Freedome from unreasonable searches and seizures.
*Fifth Amendment- No person to be deprived of life, liberty, or property with out due process of law.
*Sixth Amendment- Right to speedy public trial by an impartial jury, right to be informed of facts of the accusation, right to confront witness and have assistance of counsel.
*Eighth Amendment- No excessive bail or cruel and unusual punishment shall be imposed
*Fourteenth Amendment- All persons (citizens and non citiznes) within the US are entitled to due process and equal protection of laws.

Not only are these rights been threatened but more has happened due to the USA Patriot act that was passed after 9/11 to "protect" America if another attack like this happens (god forbid)
